Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
Woodcraft is one place http://www.woodcraft...spx?query=holly The finish you use will have an effect on the way it yellows as it ages, as will the amount of exposure to sunlight. In other words, your milage may vary.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
That stuff grows like crazy out here, Hawk. But most of it is too small to cut for grips.

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
I have two in my yard that have been growning for over twenty years. They are just about right for cutting for grips, BUT, and there is always a but, you have to get through the branches and sharp leaves to cut the trunk down. Apache Hawk 60642
That explains the high prices. Found a few places out there but the prices are very high indeed. Guess I just stick on my walnut grips.

Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
Tagua nuts look a lot like ivory when polished. In fact they are referred to as "vegetable ivory" but the very largest are only about 2.3" by 1.5". Most are closer to 1.75"

Grizzly Dave
Hey BMC, if'n you ever have any Holly or other hard wood trees dead on your place and need them taken down, I have a woodworker friend in Seattle who will likely do it for you just for the wood. He sent me a few pieces off a huge maple burl a while back, one of these days I'm gonna make some grips outta that.

Clay Mosby
Ya might want to check out this guy as well. He's a little pricey, but the work is excellent, and he delivered in the promised 7-8 days on grips of Desert Ironwood for my Ruger Bisleys. Subject to cracking though. I do have some vining maple that might be usable. Getting ready to cut this month so let me know how much you want. It will have sap in it so it will need to dry before you do anything crazy with it.
Grizzly Dave
BMC, shoot me an email and I'll pass it on to Rick. I get emails from cowboy shooters that show their real names and have trouble remembering which is who. He is a master at resawing and stacking and stickering to dry, so no worries there.
