Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hey MT, Seems to me that he started the toast before the music began. Regards, AM
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Traditionally the toast is "To the Queen" and then you shut up. Doesn't anyone on his staff have responsibility for telling him these things? Is he so unconscious that he can't hear their national anthem and stop his mouth from making sounds?
Doc Windshadow Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 And the fact that after he asked the date of a nearby cleric he signed the Westminster Abbey guest book and dated it 2008! the official response was that he has not had to write the date on anything since then as all things presented for his signature have the date already filled in http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Obama-Mistake-Westminster-Guest-Book-Dated-2008-By-US-President-Barack-Obama/Article/201105415998813?lpos=UK_News_Second_Home_Page_Feature_Teaser_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15998813_Obama_Mistake%3A_Westminster_Guest_Book_Dated_2008_By_US_President_Barack_Obama

Their goal nothing less than the destruction of America and the creation of a socialist state. Just my humble opinion. Never in my 6 decades have I been this embarassed by a government official. I'll go quietly now.
Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 That's right - make the toast and shut up....I am glad the music started...the less I can hear from him the better GG ~
Pack Saddle Slim, SASS #73122 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hey! I can't stand him. However, I think the music should not have started until he finished talking. Regards, Allie Mo The orchestra did exactly what they were supposed to do. When they hear the words, "To her Majesty, the Queen," they are supposed to begin. That's just standard protocol. I guess they didn't realize Barry was going to continue on with, "In the words of Shakespeare...." My question is, why didn't we see this on national news?

Charlie Harley, #14153 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 That made me SO uncomfortable and embarrassed for the elected leader of my country. I loved Her Majesty's expression when he turned and raised his glass. I think her face could be translated, "Sonny, this isn't about your eloquence. It is about England. Now please shut up."

Utah Bob #35998 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hey! I can't stand him. However, I think the music should not have started until he finished talking. Regards, Allie Mo The cue to start the music is when the toaster says "To the Queen". First you make your remarks. Somebody should have coached him on the protocol. Course he could just have been unnerved at the proximity of Camilla. I would be, BTW I had 5 bucks on her in the Preakness.
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hello, Okay, he did not follow protocol. Sorry I did not know. His staffers should have. I still do not find this a horrible gaffe when compared to his other actions. I find his bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia much more offensive, especially when he did not bow to the queen of an allied country. The anthem/toast thingy was inadvertent. The other, bowing to one and not the other was intentional. Regards, Allie Mo

Same as if it had been the our anthem. Didn't he see that no one was looking at him, had their glasses raised? Didn't he get any hints? What if a foreign dignitary had done this while our anthem was playing? MT
Harvey Mushman Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Allie, Concur with your assessment of some of his other "intentional" gaffes, always slighting our allies and naive pandering to our enemies. In this case there are two points: 1. The toasting protocol point mentioned here is VERY COMMON KNOWLEDGE for anyone in business or government, observed and taught from a very early stage - it is not just protocol for the Queen. I learned it 40+ years ago as a teenager, reinforced in every job I've had since. Every military officer, businessman and politico is taught this basic stuff. 2. Even if he forgot (if he ever knew that BASIC fact), He should have shut up the INSTANT the National Anthem started. That requires awareness that it is NOT about YOU. He's been in politics on a national stage for over 4 years and witnessed thousands of toasts. I admire you wanting to cut him slack here, but it really just confirms what an unqualified, self absorbed individual our President is. I was embarrassed for him and for our country! Harvey BTW, you forgot to mention his toast to President Sarkosy of France where he stated the France was the "greatest of our allies". Sheer ignorance, and insult to our true greatest allies. Tragically pathetic incompetence.
That Masked Man Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 BTW, you forgot to mention his toast to President Sarkosy of France where he stated the France was the "greatest of our allies". Sheer ignorance, and insult to our true greatest allies. Tragically pathetic incompetence. HM, If by "our" one means the Democratic Socialist Party, then France may very well be the greatest of 'their' allies! I see that you are assuming that by "our" he means the United States .... but that would require the speaker to identify with the United States, rather than with fellow Socialists -- here you seem to make an erroneous assumption! Hi-Yo and Awaaaaaayy, TMM
Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 And I'll add the way our president has treated the prime minister of Israel. The only thing that is close to right in the Middle East is Israel and our president treats her leader with overt rudeness.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I suspect BHO has done similar things during the ceremonies of third world nations and they did not complain because they needed the money. Q E II, however has protocol in her blood and breaching it is the stuff of <omitted>.

Red Gauntlet , SASS 60619 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Any stick will do, if you want to beat on someone! Today's situation is so like 1994-95 it's uncanny. Republicans win at the first mid-term elections, blow the politics, most everybody in the GOP bales out of presidential contention, the Dem Prexy waltzes to a second term. I see it coming again. All this business about the Queen is just frustration-- the Republicans are wearing the Emperor's clothes. Too bad, since I'm one myself....

Oklahomabound Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 ...why are we assuming that Obama's staff did not coach him!!!! ...of course he was coached by his staff. This just shows his complete and total disregard for a valued friend and closest of our allies. This man is self absorbed... ...and did everyone note that he had to read those few words he said inappropriately... ...what a complete embarrassment he is to this country!!! ...he has not grown into the job (as most do), and constantly demonstrates his inability or unwillingness to do so!!!! ...he needs to be impeached, IMHO.
