Aunt Jen
Five reasons why "The Paleface" (with Bob Hope) is the Best Western Movie: Because Jane Russell is smart enough to marry Painless Because his B-Wes outfit is so cute Because the Dirty Shame Saloon has the best name Because the # of indians he shot grows by 1 every time he mentions them Because Kevin Costner wishes he was Bob Hope Because Bob dances so well in his over-sized boots Because Jane plays Jane, and she redeems herself Because Bing wished he was in it, too (He wanted to play the chief) Because Buttons and Bows won an Oscar Because he is so Bob, when everyone else plays it straight Because it made more money than "Blazing Saddles" Oooops. "Blazing Saddles" made more. Never mind. Aunt Jen
Dakota Rebel, SASS# 58412
You need to watch "The Villian" with Kirk Douglas, Arnold S, Mel Tillis, Ann-Margaret, Paul Lynde, etc. It's a Road Runner cartoon set up as a western.

Tell Sackett SASS 18436
You've GOTTA be kiddin'!! I detested most Bob Hope movies because he tried to make cowardice into some kind of a virtue. Only one of his that comes to mind that didn't was Ghost Breakers.
Seldom Seen #16162
Son of Paleface was better cause it had TRIGGER, The Smartest Horse in the Movies, and still had Jane Russell in it.
Utah Bob #35998
You've GOTTA be kiddin'!! I detested most Bob Hope movies because he tried to make cowardice into some kind of a virtue. Only one of his that comes to mind that didn't was Ghost Breakers. I don't see where he ever made cowardice a virtue. He made comedies. Bob Hope entertained servicemen for over 50 years in his USO shows. In 1996, the U.S. Congress honored Bob Hope by declaring him the "first and only honorary veteran of the U.S. armed forces". Well deserved recognition as far as I'm concerned.
Guest Tennessee Stud, SASS# 43634 Life
Bob Hope was one of the most selfless Patriots that has ever lived. ts
Tell Sackett SASS 18436
Regardless of what he was in real life, his movie image was that of a coward. I never found cowardice funny.

Dodo
Number 1 reason that's not the best western. It's not even a real western. It's a comedy plan and simple.
Alpo
How about James Garner? I found the reference, one time, to "Chicken Jim" Garner. I thought about it. It made sense. Bret Maverick, constantly trying to avoid a fight. Nichols, a short-lived TV western where he was the sheriff of Nichols Arizona. Constantly trying to avoid a fight. Support Your Local Sheriff and Your Local Gunfighter. Admitted cowards in both movies. The Americanization of Emily. WW2 movie with Julie Andrews. Made cowardice seem like a virtue. Jim Rockford. If there was any way at all to avoid a fight, he took it. He, basically, made his career playing cowards. Did it very well. You hate him?
Dodo
It's in the class of blazing saddles, villain, partners, funny, and entertaining. But not westerns, SASS is not based on any of these. That's all I'm saying.

Aunt Jen
Yes, yes, yes, all. How could I also have left out Son of Paleface and Support your Local Sheriff, etc? So I've made a mistake; can't list all the good ones. I guess it would be easier to just list the two or three that weren't any good.
