Wild Bunch Question

The stage calls for the 1911 to do a 5 shot sweep with the first mag and an identical sweep with the second mag. The shooter racks the slide and has a jam. He reracks and throws out the jam and chambers a round. He shoots 4 rounds and the mag is empty. He then reloads a new mag and shoots 5 rounds and the mag is empty. He then reloads a 3rd mag and shoots 1 round drops the mag and clears the gun, ejecting a round from the chamber. Was he allowed to load the second mag and continue into the second sweep or did he have to do a one shot reload to finish the first sweep and then clear the gun and start the second sweep with a fresh mag?

He was allowed to do just what you described, reloads done safely after a malfunction are allowed.

• All reloads shall be from slide lock, no “tactical reloads.” You may not reload the pistol with a round in the chamber. Reloads done safely after malfunctions are allowed.

Stage writers in Wild Bunch who specify exactly when a magazine has to be changed are "evil creatures." Just as Cowboy stage writers who specify exactly which targets have to be hit with which of the two revolvers are being "evil" to gunfighters. Don't write into stages stuff like "change magazine" or "with a new magazine". It's unnecessary and confining. Write target orders (if you want) and shot counts. Writing exact points where mag changes are to occur puts EXTRA burden on everyone that serves no useful purpose.

The standard in Wild Bunch is that the shooter has the option to shoot as many shots from any given magazine as they desire, for whatever purpose they may need. This gives the shooter the flexibility he will need to recover safely from a malfunction.

Good luck, GJ

The Wild Bunch Committee was very careful when writing the rules for WBAS to be certain that we DID NOT in any way mention when a magazine change was required. Only that ALL rounds must be loaded from a magazine. Do NOT mention when magazines should be changed when writing WBAS stages!!

Think of it like a GFer.

First 5 shots, 2nd 5 shots.

Not first pistol, 2nd pistol. Or first mag, 2nd mag.

Did he get the first 5 shots in the correct order. Did he get the 2nd 5 shots in the correct order.

Some of the more creative shooters will carry a magazine with only one cartridge in it as stove pipes and jams, for some reason will often leave us with the need for "one more shot". It's there if you need it and it's just an extra if you don't.
