WTS Race Ready Winchester 1897

Recommended Posts

Selling a Winchester 1897 Model E Takedown made in 1936. The gun was completely reworked by T.L (Terry Miller) of Cowboys and Indian Store about 3 years ago. Barrel cut to 20 inches, new large front bead. Action job. Forcing cone recut to reduce recoil. Stock shortened to 13 1/2 inches and recoil pad added.

The gun has been my main match gun for the past 2 + years and has operated flawlessly (except for me sometimes). I typically shoot about 6 to 7 multi day matches per year plus a couple of club shoots. Probably about 20 matches on this reworked gun.

The gun has about 10% of the bluing left. Strange thing is the exterior has seen a lot of wear but the action appears to have little wear and the bolt to action side play is minimal. It appears the gun (orginally a 30 inch barrel) was used as a hunting gun having been shot a couple times per year and then stashed in the corner of the house or cabin. Besides the bluing which is mostly gone or turned to a brown pantena, the other flaws are: 1. Minor nicks in the stock. 2. Some pitting of the barrel. 3. Minor crack in the stock "wrist" area about 1 inch long which has always been there. I've never taken the stock off the gun and I'm not sure if the crack was repaired or the crack is just superficial.
