Curley Cole, SASS #56849 Posted May 16, 2011 Share Posted May 16, 2011 ~DOBE~ Yep there he was right up there on that silver screen, up there with the biggest ,western stars we had ever seen He held his own,he was a hand,and a hand as good as any. he rode he roped and chose the mount for others and there were many. I remember as a buckaroo,when he was a hand for Spin and Marty then, when we had our birthdays,it was of course a cowboy party. Well we grew older and a tad bit wiser,and he stayed along for the ride then we settled in,and we noticed he'd hit his stride. Now how did that story go,that his daddy told? when he was born that head of hair was far from bein gold, His pa looked down at his babe,and thought what am i to do, with eyes wide open in concentration he thought it through and through. Wy them locks upon that little noggin was a flamin red, a regular christian name won't do,was what his papa said.. As he glanced upon the land and the dusk came with an auburn glow, he looked upon the walls of his ranch and shouted BY GOD I KNOW!! That head of hair is as red as the clay of these walls upon our home, and that is what i'll call him and those locks upon his dome. Now from that day, and to this day, is how our pard is known, from the color of the adobe walls that ranch had honestly shown I christen thee "Dobe",his papa shouted,with a bit of humor. It was a real pleasure meeting you and yours at the Durango Cowboy shoot in 1995 sharing talk over a cup of coffee and receiving that photograph of you and the Duke from 3 God Fathers, which I proudly display on my wall.
