If I replace the springs on a WW2 P-38 how much will it degrade its value? I ask as the gun fires whenb you engage the safety.

You can always keep the originals if you want to sell it "complete".

But the value won't be significantly affected.

I will do that then. I took it to the range today and it is a good thing I had it pointed down range when I engaged the decocking lever. on fire it works fine. I did a search and found where others have had the problem where it goes full auto on them when the safety is engaged.

If you replace the springs with original ones, such as from a dewat or relic, no one will know, since these weren't stamped for individual guns. Also, remember that such things as springs, firing pin, were, or are replaced in usage. MT

good point. I sure am glad it was pointing down range when it went off.
