Sabre, SASS #46770
FIRE MISSION 1 round Willie Peter Azimuth 200 Elevation 89 Charge ZERO Fire one Or werds to that effect. We used to fire the 81mm with charge zero. It STILL went out far enough to be safe, but close enough to be interesting.

I don't recall after all of these years, but I know that it was fun to watch the WP make smoke. Then there were the flare rounds. And the frag rounds. I don't think I ever wanted to catch one of them live rounds tho.

Subdeacon Joe
Joe, Now ya went and did it, Coffee all over my keyboard first thing in the AM. Jus love it. Ah...success! I remember back in the early 70s, maybe late 60s, on Independence Day a few Marines from Camp Pendleton drove around Vista with a mortar in the back of a pickup firing off parachute flares. They were about to take a government funded tour of SE Asia and rumor had it that beer was involved. Civil authorities were Not Happy. The Corps wasn't happy, but if I recall, punishment was fined for the cost of munitions expended and confinement to base until they shipped out.
