Oddly enough thoug the USPS was not much better on this transaction. I sent funds in a standard envelope through the USPS. I sent it our Friday at 3:00. They pick up at 3:30 so I thought it would go out Friday and be delivered Monday or Tuesday at the latest. well the letter with the funds got "stuck" in their processing machine. luckily the post office repackaged it and got it delivered a few days later but I was worried about the funds being lost since they were delayed so much.

I guess no matter what service you use there will be some glitch that may happen. I think this is just my luck. I was hoping to get the equipment for the local match today but they won't get here until Monday or Tuesday. A week and a half after originally sending the funds. Oh well. I will be getting them soon and am like a kid at Christmas.

My FFL who is also my neighbor and TG mailed a rifle USPS Express insured for a thousand for $29.80. Oh, and then I had to buy him and his wife breakfast which for all 3 of us was a little under 20 bucks. I'm convinced US Mail is the way to go. Besides they need the business to keep their doors open. I would sure hate to see them fold the tent and fade away...

I'd love to, but the USPS (here anyway) says they won't ship handguns, only long guns.

Geez!

Lemmings to the "see?" Do you consider Denver Holy?

Also, where did you get your statistics about migration from CA to Denver? If you are going to insult folks you should at least back up your statements with facts and use appropriate words.

Regards,

PS This is the second thread today to really tick me off! Maybe it's time to "step away from the keyboard."

BSD, only an FFL can ship a handgun via USPS ;)

Respectfully,

LG

Things may have changed since then, but about 7 years ago I sold a Vaq to a pard in Florida. He sent me a copy of his receiving FFL license. I made a copy and put it in the box and toted it in to my local small town PO. Nice girl says "whut's in da box". "A revolver" sez I. She gets that deer in the headlight look and scurries off to return with "the old guy". He takes my original FFL copy, logs everything into a bound book and less than 20 bucks later it is on its way and so am I. (box was addressed to the FFL address, not to the buyer). I am not, nor have I ever been an FFL meowndangself.

I did not have any problems going through the Fedex hub.

When I got my Springfield 1911 it had some very minor issues. When it received free round trip to Springfield's custom shop Springfield sent me an e-mail detailing exactly how to do it. I followed the steps, but I did have to drive 45 miles to the hub. It was an 11 day round trip.

When I originally talked to Springfield's customer service they told me that all the stories I heard about problems with Fedex had to do with the store locations. The stores lack the security of the hubs. The agent went on to assure me that my chances of problems at the hub were small and only a new hire might not know the drill.

Boy! Do I like Springfield...

Regarding shipping firearms by a non-FFL holder, it can be simple if you know the carrier's regs. First thing....long guns may be shipped by a non FFL holder through The US Postal Service. Box them up, declare them at the window and they'll take them without much fanfare.

Secondly...DO NOT go to a FedEx/Kinkos or UPS Store with a firearm. These satalite locations are populated with minimum-wage workers that couldn't care less about what is being shipped. If you mention "gun" you may as well yell "bomb" at a TSA screening point. Go to the hub or main dispatch office of the carrier. That's the location where the trucks are sent out from. Every one should have a shipping office and they will handle a firearm without many speed bumps. Take your handgun there for shipment. Again, they should handle the transaction without too much grief.

Thirdly...don't expect the receiving FFL to send you a copy of their license if you are not an FFL holder yourself. This isn't because we are mean, or are trying to queer your online deal or that we are in some secret fraternity. Most of us have been advised by the ATF not to release a copy of our license to non-licensees. The chance for fraud is tremendous. I had my license altered once after mistakenly giving it to a non licensee. Next thing I knew, ATF was at MY door asking why I had altered my license. All you need is the first three and last five digits of the receiving FFL's license number. Take it to the ATF EZ Check website and punch it in. You should get all their particulars including whether or not the license is expired. More importantly, UPS or FedEx should accept the ATF EZ Check printout in lieu of an actual license.

Shipping guns can be easy, but you need to know the rules of the road.

Most of the people leaving California came from someplace else in the first place (Only 1 in 11 California residents are native born), so maybe the crows are just going back home to roost. After every other state (and a whole herd of foreign countries) send their trash here so they can vote their communist/socialist friends into office and help destroy the state, I think it's only fair that we send some of it back.
