I got a 1952 Marx electric train for Christmas last year. (Reliving other parts of my childhood now thatI'm a cowboy again.) It was somewhat used but in really great shape, but I couldn't find a transformer.

Yesterday at the regular GLB gathering of modestly great minds and razor-sharp wit, JJJ brought me one.

After some lubing and cleaning of the engine and a de-crudding of the track, I hooked it up.

IT'S ALIVE!!!

My wife is going to have a seizure when she gets home and finds it running around her kitchen table, but I don't care.

Once again, thanks Jim.

I still have the 1953 Lionel set I got for Christmas when I was 5.

Haven't had it out in many years. It's an O gauge or O scale. I don't know the difference but the dang engine if Heavy.

Yup, he's a good guy to have around. Performed meritorious service for our dear departed pard Laylow Curly not long ago. If I ever get to meet him in person I'll buy a drink or twa.

WOW! Does it got Das Kapital: Kritik der politischen Ökonomie writ on the side of it?

(Calm down there, Pard... jes joshin' wiya... fer sure. BTW... I love trains... my boy has several small (HO Scale) trains... and a track mounted to an 8x8 ft. plywood base (two sections joined). He's got an entire town mounted on that board... even trees with lil' dogs pissin' on em.)

EDIT: Jest thinkin'... not sure about the scale of the trains... if HO is the smallest... they are one scale larger, I think.

Without pictures this thread is useless. Just sayin..

When it stops being a high speed (about 175 scale mph) flat oval on the kitchen table, I'll get pics for all of y'all.

Nope, but the engine has glasses, a big mustache, and the smokestack looks like a cigar.

Not going to deny that! I have an HO gauge set sitting in a box that Mrs. Doc got me years ago for Christmas, but I don't have a place to set it up. Been thinking about doing just that though.

HO is the bigger of the small home trains, but there are more sizes that get bigger and bigger, like the outdoor one at LA Co Fairgrounds.

Mein Zug den HO says Produkten aus WestDeutschland :D [made in West Germany]. Dad ran it around our C'mas tree in the mid 50s and my son ran it around our tree in the 90s. We put a little cooking oil in the engine stack for smoke. My ex-hubby built a huge train table for the tiny N-scale train [1 inch wide track] which is still suspended from the garage ceiling. You can really do a lot with the scenery with small scale.

I'm getting rid of it if anyone is interested: 15'l X 10'w X 4'h on 4 heavy duty legs and wheels.

O.K. here is more info than ya wanted on model trains sizes:

T Scale - 1:450, basically half the size of Z scale.

Z Scale - 1:220

N Scale - 1:164

TT Scale - 1:120

H0 Scale - 1:87 Typical engine about 1.9" X 3.8"

00 Scale (Britian)- 1:76

Sn3 Scale - Narrow gauge N Scale

HOn3 Scale - Nrrow gauge HO Scale

Nn3 Scale - Narrow gauge N Scale

S Scale - Most well known is American Flyer - 1:64

O Scale - Most well known Lionel, Marx. - 1:48

G Scale - Typical large scale backyard trains - 1:24

1 Scale - Typical live steam trains. Is the largest common scale at 1:8, with 1:4 sometimes used for park rides.

The bigger than number (1:220) the smaller the train size.

So there ya have it...
