Dee Mak Jack, SASS #55905
Can the the cowboy 45 brass be loaded with a .452 bullet and used in an open top chambered for the Schofield ? I've read on the net in two different places and one says the bullet dia is .450 and snother says .452. So whats the story ? Thanks DMJ
Bull Skinner
The 45 Special is a shortened 45 Colt. All other specs are the same. So, yes you can shoot it in a 45 Schofiled gun and use .452 bullets. Its case capacity is that of a 45 ACP.
Slowhand Bob, 24229
One step further, the 45special will give one slight advatage over the Colt round as far as ejection goes. The star has a tendency to slip over the small rims on both but the shorter case can actually still fall free due to it much shorter length. I have quit loading the Colt or Schofield brass and only load the specials now and it really saves on my bp use.
Adirondack Jack, SASS #53440
I've been told by none other than Walt Kirst that the Cowboy .45 Special is the perfect round for use in open tops and other conversion type guns. The lighter loadings are easier on the guns......
irish ike, SASS #43615
Not really on topic but I use conversion yclinders in my ROA's and 58 Remingtons. With 3f BP and a big lube bullet the felt recoil is just like my cap & Ball loads. So when I do shoot Frontiersman no big difference. In other words the 45 cowboy brass solves many issues. Abilene Slim SASS 81783
Howdy DMJ, I shoot a pair of open tops. Started with .45 Colt, switched to Schofield, then to .45 CS. Bullet diameter has always been .452. The CS is a great round for open tops.
