Not long ago... I indicated that I watched one esipode of Justified... and quit after seein' an ol' woman ball-peen hammer this great-big fella's knuckles. That was enuff for me...

However... got this house-husband who lives nearby... a limey bast@rd (who's luckily married to a fairly good-lookin' female doctor)... and he's an overall nice guy.

Seein's Bryn as bein' from across the big pond... sometimes he can't understand plain English... seriously. So's 'bout a week ago... he aks me to interpret a few Justified TV shows... and convinces me to help him watch "taped" versions of it. (Don't know why he didn't watch the show with closed-captionin' to begin with... but his tapes ain't got no writin'-stuff at the bottom of the screen.)

From what I saw... it did turn out to be a fairly decent watch... except havin' to stop every few minutes to tell Brynly what the hell was spoke. (He couldn't understand anything that the weeny-arm Dicky said... to save his life... and I thought everthang Dickhead said was as plain as a big wart on a small knocker. ssshhhheeshhhh....

Only thing that bothered me 'bout it all... there's lots of folks down in Kentucky and Tennessee just like them folks on that show... and I ain't got much interest in watchin' shows 'bout 'em. Don't get me wrong... we AIN'T GOT ALL KINDS OF SHOOTIN'S AND SUCH.... but the way some of them folks live an act on the show... is perty close to realistic. Most of the folks that I am referrin' like to make HIGH DRAMA... out of absolutely nothin' and can create all kinds of cryin', ballin', screamin' and fightin'... for the nit-pickiest-sh!t you ever saw. For most of my adult life... tried to insolate my folks from all the drugs & alcohol abuse stuff depicted on the show... but alot of that stuff down in the mid-South is also real, unfortunately.

One other thang that ain't too real 'bout that show... just way too many folks on that show got all their teeth... too many to be where they're from.

Jeez, I hate to be the naysayer, but the writing in this series is slippin', in my view.

First season, the hero was a modern day Earp; not always within the rules, but operating by a code, and with the remarkable skills to back it up. No nonsense, dry humor, wicked but lovable. His dialogue was sparse and to the point.

This season, he's sliding toward stupidity. He's falling for obvious traps, slow with his gun, distracted and diluted by the ex-wife (and violating his own code as a result - fiddling with stolen money from the Federal property vault!!), adrift without a compass, and down-right unable to take care of himself. His boss' patience is Job-like, and unrealistic in this age. I feel like I'm watching a character whose lines are written by 6 different folks who aren't talking to each other; the continuity is gone.

Well, maybe I expect too much; sure would like to see it get back closer to the original track.

There's also folks just like the ones on Justified in southside Virginia where I grew up, and I have to agree with your assessment of them. I go back for high school reunions and such, swap emails with folks I know down there, and get the weekly paper from down there, so I keep up with the goings-on pretty well. The local weekly paper has no word limit on Letters To The Editor that folks submit, and it's not unusual to see longwinded, rambling and incoherent rants about some local issue or perceived malfeasance on the part local officials who are the objects of the writer(s) disdain. The biggest entertainment event is probably the monthly County Board Of Supervisors meetings and Town Council Meetings which are reported on in the paper, shouting matches and ejections of the loudest and most offensive by law enforcement officers and all. They'd all fit right in on the Jerry Springer show.

Remember folks, it ain't a documentary. I could pick apart the legal problems and police procedure screw ups all night long. I prefer to just sip mu bourbon and enjoy a good yarn that beats any other "drama" on TV.

Never thought it was. Wished to hell you'd tell that to the naive, but new arrival from Britain... Brynly... along with just 'bout any other Yankee that I meet.. and I meet a lot of outsiders. It must be a popular show.... cause I been asked way too many times if we're all as "hicky" as the folks on Justified. Folks 'round here figger it has somethin' to do with the way we talk. Don't know fer sure... but I ain't gonna worry 'bout it.

Oh BTW... Brutha Bob... you ever see Timothy Olyphant in that movie... The Crazies? Kinda 'bout the same genra as The Walking Dead. Jest wondered.

Not to hijack the thread, but for a different Olyphant, check him out in "A Perfect Getaway".

Pretty decent flick.

Yeah, the show is good.. and he is nice looking and plays a great part.. but the truth is guys,.. no one is a nice looking as a cowboy to me.. and all of guys have that spirit in your hearts.. He is too young, too darn young looking and lacks a nice older cowboy attitude to me.. Stop gettin big heads now cuz all your wives will have to deal with you.. lol.. Younger guys are just not so interesting to me..

I aint no yankee. Born in Baton Rouge, further South than most. Those are great folks in the South, I just could not take the heat, after a couple heat strokes I was gone. There are hillbillies or hillbilly types in every state. We always figured that folks with New York/New Jersey dialects were all out to get us, dang carpet baggers. The actual thugs are a select few that work inside the 495 beltway. Shows about them beltway thugs are not as entertaining as those in KY,TN,VA,WV, and NC. Justified hits close to home for some, I know some folks(relatives)that remind me of several characters in that show. I've got a cousin in an LA parrish, he used to be the biggest poacher around, his brother is the sheriff, and other brother is a game warden. They use to call his dad "Boss Hogg".

I like the show but I have to agree with Loophole the writing is going downhill. I still like the show but personally I was disapointed in the finale. Hope next season is better. Rye

Stud, I spent seven years in Jacksonville N.C. with the Marines, and the locals are like that there, too.

As for the show, I saw that coming.

The "Virginian" also moved to Wyoming. Get your but out here and see some real mountains Stud. There's alot more room out here to do covert type stuff than back in those hills you call mountains. I doubt the crops they grow in KY would grow out here. Our biggest crop is Sage, folks aint killing each other ove that.

Only 7 yrs there, you have no idea how bad it really is. I spent 30 yrs there, 20 in law enforcement both Onslow County and JPD. I moved back to Texas as soon as I retired.

I spent a LOT of time on Court Street, so I've got a fair idea.:P

Hollywood is never going to give us any more John Waynes... all of our heroes are going to be "flawed" I fear. I love the program and will add it to my DVD library. Kinda wish Loretta had pulled the trigger, and hated what happened to Ava, though.

She's one of those women attracted to bad boys. Maybe she's learned her lesson now.

They seemed to have gotten rid of most of the Bennett's in the season finale. I figure than Braylin or his Daddy will take care of the little sruffy one that shot Braylin's aunt. I am glad they are saving him for last. Mama Bennett took the coward's way out.

Those are just the Downtown Bennets. You know there's got be dozens more up in the hills.

I'm glad to see that I weren't the only one that was bothered by Dickie still bein' amongst the living. That boy needs killin'.

All Raylan's gotta do is get him out of jail. Boyd (who is played by a good Southern boy from Birmingham ;) ) will take care of the rest.

I know exactly what you're sayin', T.S..Since I moved to N.M. the guys I work with like to poke fun at my Hillbilly accent..I like to tell them "I'm the most dangerous kind of redneck, a college eddicated one!"

Heh, heh..The ladies seem to like it though.. ;)

Been wanting to check out "Justified", I just can't seem to catch it when it's on.
