Howdy, Pards,

I have two photos of a civilian teamster who worked for the Army in 1875-76. I think they are of the same individual, but I only have verification of an old man standing with a caregiver, c. 1940's. The other photo shows what I believe to be the same person, but as a young man, with a very bushy beard. (The old man has only a mustache.) Both appear to have very large hands, which were a family characteristic.

Does anybody know of an expert, preferrably in the Colorado area, who could do a computer scan of both photos and possibly tell me if they are the same individual?

Ride careful, Pards! There are still a LOT of bad guys lurking around the world! Godspeed to those still in harm's way in the defense of Freedom everywhere! God Bless Seal Team 6 and the CIA people that were with them! God Bless and protect the United States of America!

Your thankful Pard,

The Vegas casinos use a system called " Grffin " that keeps cheats photos on file, the system can identify the person even when the person adds hair, beard, sunglasses. A point to start with. Yours. Nota John

Thanks, Pard. Problem is I need somebody that has the software and knows how to use it and evaluate the images. I'm probably gonna try the forensics people at Colorado State University (been saying that for about 20 years, and never seem to find the time to contact them). One of these days...

Could be that you don't need a forensics expert ( at least to make a tentative ID). There are online programs (Google Picasa 3.5 is one I have used) that can scan a photo library and and sort pictures into groups of similar faces.

Do you know someone with a little computer expertise and hardware (relative, cowboy?) They could scan the photos then upload ONE (the younger person) and have Picasa search a photo library on your PC that contains the other, older image. If the software brings in the other photo you might have a pretty good match.

Then you could go for more sophisticated methods for confirmation.

Best of luck,

Olen

Scan both fotos into Photoshop. Resize one of the fotos to match the eye width on the other. If the face is the same, you should get a fairly good matchup with other features despite the age variance.
