Things are about to get tough for more small local gun shops as up to 500 more stores will sell guns up from 1000 that now do out its 3600 stores

Wal-Mart has said it will soon bring back the sale of firearms, including rifles and shotguns, at more than 500 of its US stores.

The retail giant stopped selling guns at hundreds of its 3,600 US stores in 2006, citing slumping consumer demand.

But a spokesman said guns would return to the shelves as "part of the overall push to bring 8,000 products back".

Thursday's news comes two months after Wal-Mart announced a seventh straight quarterly decline in US sales

Out store got them back in about middle of February or so. Nothing new, just the same boring selection of the same things they had before.

I will still continue to support my local gun shops.

The Wal-mart here never stopped selling guns. The only way they'll compete with the local gun shops is if they expand their limited inventory and start selling handguns. And I don't think that will happen.

Well in this area only the super store sell em but unless you are looking for best price on a Ruger 10-22 I would agree with you... interesting that the press release was carried by BBC news though...

Ours never quit selling them, but I was in the store tonight and there was big sign in the gun section saying, "All rifles and shotguns must leave the store in a locked gun case."

Don't know if this will replace the "Walk of Shame" or not. <_<

Wallmart sells low end long guns and no handguns, so they are no threat to a real gun shop.

It depends on the individual store location. I've got store within 5 miles that never stopped selling while others never have.

Funny thing is the last gun I bought from Wal Mart is a Crickett I got for two of my grandkids. I got a CCW so there was no waiting period but the manager escorted me to the exit and then handed me the rifle........all the while I was packing a.38. Go figure.

I was working the sporting goods counter when they closed our gun sales down. Only 2 stores in Nebraska at the time. 1 was in Lincoln I believe, the other was here, in the middle of the state in an area that is big for hunting. Made no sense.

They do have a Mossberg .410 pump I always eyeballed, so maybe 1 of these days I will bite and buy from them again. BUT, I will price it at my other shops too before I do.

I'll be purty surprised if the California stores stock 'em again...

maybe I can find a 410 single shot for my daughter now then, seems they used to carry those

Hey, Mike, take care with those .410 single shots. I bought one for my kid (uh... many years ago!) - an H&R "Youth Model." Very light, and about the most uncomfortable thing either of us had ever shot. For an itty-bitty gun it kicked like a booger! Cute li'l thing, but... :(

I'm actually kinda surprised they are bringing guns back. To the pencil pushers at Wal-Mart, it's about dollars per square foot per minute. Guns don't take up a lot of square feet, but selling one takes quite a bit of time for a very small markup. Two of the only three stores within 30 miles of me never quit.
