Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438
My father, a WWII Navy vet, sent this link along yesterday...color film of rescue, 70 miles off the coast of Japan, of the crew of a B-29 shot down into the sea. Now that had to make this fellow sit up and brighten up for a minute or two... http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid34762914001?bctid=672454611001 LL
Subdeacon Joe
Amazing. Both that the film got made and survived, then that it and one of the survivors got linked up.
Four-Eyed Buck,SASS #14795
Towards the end of the war, a lot of Subs were on Lifeguard duty during air strikes whether AAC or Navy planes were involved. gave'em something to do, not much in the way of Japanese shipping left by then. Besides, many Co.'s stated they'd rather rescue an "Airdale" than sink what was left of the Merchant Marine. Better satisfaction to save a fellow service man's life...........
