Dang, how could I have forgotten about them kidney stones...I have passed a couple and they are about as bad as pain can get.

A couple of folks have commented on the "shuttin the car door on fingers" syndrome. I tell folks that if they have ever slammed a door on their finger......well that is how I feel all over when I wake up in the morning...ouch!

keep em commin...

some I have felt, and some I never want to feel, and some makes me just plain sad......

Curleys anyone who knows you know how brave you are ... and the amount of pain you are in.. I wish I could wave a magic wand..

If I could so much about life would be so different for my pards.. hugs.. DV

Broken rib. Everything you do hurts. Eye lashes are connected to ribs!

===================================================

You sure got that right. I've had three broken ribs over the years, two of them plus my left collarbone due to a motorcycle accident in '77.

I had a horse fall on me and it did crack my pelvis, give me a concussion, and break my foot in three places... but I was only 12 so I did okay. The most painful would have been the fractured cheek bone, broken teeth, black eyes, and broken nose I suffer much later in life.. So, why is it that it hurts more as you age? I have heard kids do better.. why?

Deja,.... you start some strange topics

For the ammount of accumulated hurt . . . mine has to be the right shoulder that was broken in a fall in the shipyard 33 years ago ( spring of '77 ). I didn't fall far, . . but had no chance to brace myself, and landed hard on my right side. The concern at the time was that my pelvis might be broken. I was carried into medical at the shipyard and lay on the Xray table until the Xray was developed. The pelvis was Ok. A bone in my right wrist was broken. So I was off work for six weeks,.... Ok .... I got a nice week long trip down Baja, across the sea of Cortez to Mazatlan, and back up via the mainland out of it. The right shoulder kept bothering me off and on. Back to the orthepedic specialist a year later. A chunk had been broken off of the top of the humerous. I'd hurt so bad all over that one more broken bone wasn't even noticable. Does it hurt ? Silly question. It hurts, off adn on. . if I strain it a bit too much it is a KILLER HURT for a week or more while I function left handed.

Ok . . I've posted on your latest wierd thread.

The one thing about pain that is so hard for me is drugs. I had sinus surgery about 1992 I think. My sinus had been crushed so I kept getting infections and nothing would clear them up.. So, they decided to open my sinus up a bit more. Coming out of the surgery was hard it felt like I was in the bottom of a pit crawling out... and all I wanted to do was get dressed and go home. So, I did just that, got dressed with the nurses yelling at me.. lol.. They gave me pain meds, just a codene thing if I remember this correctly. The drugs they used at the hospital kept me out off an on for a day and night and then I started the pills.. In two days time my stomach was so upset and I was so far out in left field I had to stop taking the pills. I dread any surgery in the future. My father has had back surgery for hours, a few pacemakers now, gall bladder, colon cancer surgery last year... and he has the same trouble I do.. coming out from under the drugs, and he cant take the pain meds. So we simply get to hurt a lot. Someday a "weaklings" dose would be nice.. lol

I agree with you Deja that emotional pain is very hard to deal with. Physical pain can be lessened with medication.

I'm not going to tell you what Jeannie in the third grade did to me. But it hurt.

===============================================

Mary Frances, who I was sweet on in the fourth grade, had a big sister named Ann who put a bigtime hurtin' on my head with a vicious roundhouse swing with her right arm, which was in a board-supported plaster cast. I woke up flat on my back.

When I was young, still at home, we had a rope from the barn hay loft tied to a far tree. Anyone remember Commando Cody and his leather flying jet jacket? Well me, my brothers, and sister made a sling from a paperboys bag, round plywood disk inserted into it, and layed on this, then swung out flying all the way down, heels digging before we hit the tree. We thought we were Commando Cody flying through the air. We even made up a jet pack with empty cans and strapped them on our back with a belt. Eveything worked great for weeks, then one Sunday as it was my turn, I layed on the disk and went flying out of the barn, when the strap broke half way down. I went down on top of a barb wire fence, rocks, etc. I though I was dying from the pain, couldn't breathe, chest hurt. Yet, brothers and sister came laughing to me. They got my parents and ended up with 3 broken ribs, torn legs, chest, hands, from rocks, gravel, and the barb wire. Probable would have gotten a licking, but my parents probable didn't want to increase my injuries. I never tried flying with my body again. MT

Toboggan a jump and a cold river.. lol... That long wallk home was painful.. my feet were so frozen they hurt.. lol. I was not hurt, only really cold.. Ouch though broken ribs.. yikes..

When LLC's was alive I felt that way too.. just to give him more time and shorten my time would be fine with me.. I have to admit this is not the first time I have thought those thoughts. I just wish some tmes wonder why I am so lucky and those who have children, or a spouse are gone.. Just seems unfair to me is all..

Ya know from my post on the other thread that I don't regret anything I have done over the years. Plus I am old enough to actually believe I have had a good life to this point. Course right now the pain meds are working so I am more positive then when I am max hurting...

But seriously, I appreciate your kind thoughts....It would be nice to be pain free for a couple of hours, or days..heheh

take care and see ya soon (probably at Ambush..)

Curley, you must be a little like me. No matter what the pain is, we just keep going on and find a way through it all. If it is doing our daily chores, prospecting, shooting, or putting up with the GLB (most painful)lol.

My father had scoliosis growing up.. I guess being part native and part too darn tall our bodies have a bit of trouble adapating. Anyhow.. He had spinal surgery and it did help. But he was to the point where he could not walk. I can clearly remember being in AZ talking to my father on the phone after hours and him trying to tell me about an issue that has be between us for years, who my mom is. In the end I knew he was "loaded" on drugs and getting ready for the surgery.. so all was cool.. That night I found out that no matter how strong a man appears on the outside, he still needs someone by his side when he is really sick.. I hoped that night i was comfort for my dad. I only remember having a disagreement at home about leaving and why.. and the 6 hours drive to be by his side.. Life does not give us all the same challenges.. mine are simple really and should be so easy, and would be for you.. But not for me.. On the other hand you have some painful ones ... mine are heart challegnes cuz God blessed me with health, a darned me with too many emotion too much humor and too much simply wanting to run I guess.. I was pretty good at track.. lol.. I wish we could all go walk out to a gold mine some day.. but maybe we can not.. but in my mind and heart.. we are there already... I am so sorry if what I said about the dogs offended you.. you had no idea how afraid I was of relatinships and you only meant the dogs.. I over reacted.. and for now.. I am going to go soak my head in a shower.. and hope that Rats still loves me cuz at times I am pretty unlovable.. lol.. Except for Dad .. he loves me forever..

The broken nose didn't hurt at all, went into shock right away, and later the REALLY good drugs kept the pain away.

I can't decide if the electrical burn or the steam burn hurt the most. Both were on the hands, and I had to keep my hands submereged in water for two weeks. If the burn areas were exposed to air at any time, INTENSE PAIN was the result.

I have broken numerous bones(ankle, arm, ribs, fingers, toes, vertebrae), have had many stitches, severed a couple tendons, torn ligements, ruptured discs, had a piece of automobile trim enter my right mid lower leg and exit my ankle, a friend pulled it out not knowing any better. I have broke my nose three times, have broken nine of my ten fingers, ruptured a knuckle cap, been human bit and have had multiple surgeries, but the most painful thing I have ever had was a severe groin pull while running up stairs to an Officer needs assistance call. I have never experienced pain like that, I literally saw stars, got dizzy and almost vomitted, I thought I was going to pass out, I had to fight through the pain and continue to respond, adrenalin is a strong hormone. I thought I herniated myself. later the doctor told me I would have been better off if I did that they can surgically repair a hernia. The groin pull took a couple months to heal and was extremely uncomfortable!!!

Well gosh, I've had my share of broken bones and dislocated this and that. Mostly from my years as a fire fighter. I now have severe Osteoarthritis in my spine, knees, ankles and hands. The rotator cuff injury in the right shoulder never healed correctly so I had to teach myself to shoot left handed when I started CAS.

I will have to say, the worst pain I ever experienced was when my appendix ruptured. I had just started a new job. Been there two months. Was supposed to go with some friends to Disneyland one Sunday but I wasn't feeling quite right. Felt rather "bloated" so I stayed home. Went to bed that night and woke up at three in the morning screaming. My room mate came running in and all I could tell them was get me to urgent care. {I can just imagine what it would have been like if I had gone to Disneyland and it ruptured on a roller coaster....} After much poking and probing by the doctor, it was determined my appendix had indeed ruptured and I needed to get to surgery ASAP. The most painful post-surgery time was when I tried to laugh. I pulled on the staples a number of times trying to laugh without further hurting myself. Fortunately, I was able to go back to my job. The rest of the gang gave my boss a tough time about putting the newbie in the hospital so soon.......

To add to our pain.. lol.. I stepped on a nail as a child. The foot swelled up pretty bad and at Turkey day the whole family was over and my step mom sat her dining room chair down on my barefoot.. lol.. I about screamed it hurt so bad.. I loved her a lot, she did do my dirty diapers for years.. but she was not a woman full of compassion she told me to stop whinning.. That night a red line appears and by the next day it was moving up my leg.. the infection had set it pretty well.. You know back then you didn't go in to the DR just because you were sick.. lol.. ya had to be bleeding from the mouth.. lol. IT HURT..

Had a pretty bad concussion once in a pickup football game. 230lb friend flopped ass first on my head.

Thrown from horse landed on tailbone on oak root, then stomped my leg bad (yes i got back on).

Had a core drill with a bad clutch lock up. I was coring a 4" hole from a ladder through brick. Clutch failed to do its job, spun and split my brow open. Hurt like hell. Foreman said, "oh yeah, forgot to tell ya clutch dont work."

Having to peel and clean a third degree burn on my leg was pretty bad though. Like being skinned alive.

Once I was unscrewing a Slug buster (knock out punch for making holes in cabinets used primarily by electricians) and a thread had sheered off as I unscrewed it. It embedded in my thumb. DEEP! And it curved in like a fish hook. Only it is a coarse piece of metal and I couldn't tell which way it curved cept through trial and error. I nearly fainted. This one maxed my pain threshold.

I had one electrical shock that nearly killed me. Put me to my knees and crying like a baby. I hurt for several weeks from that. Cause: communication error between workers.

Was wiring a restaraunt cooler once. Had to crawl on top of it. Contractor used like 4" #10 self tappers used to hold densdeck to the corrugated deck. 3" stuck through. It was dark. Sat up too fast. Sliced my head open.

Cut fingers to bone a few times.

Theres so many!!!!

oh.. man memories of childhood..

I remember my brother was head over heels in love with a local girl. He wanted to see her, but he knew she worked after hours a sort of second shift job. . A friend of hers mentioned to my brother that night that carol was off work and never told him.. . He was crushed... never saw him in so much pain as that.. To think that she would just not tell him she was off but rather thought he would never know is what hurt him. I think because we simply blurted out our lives, it is hard for us to understand those who choose secrecy. The upshot was they were sort of friends still, but he never trusted her and in the end he passed over her for someone else. . She went her way, he went his.. and who knows what happened to her.. but he is happy so who cares.. lol At times I think a lot of people who made decisions to not be forth coming regret it. They lost the honest people in their lives.. while the honest people.. get to have frriends they can trust. I think the newer generation maybe has more issues with this, but we sure had some issues.. lol.

Broken ribs, dislocated shoulders, various other injuries all hurt. But none of then can hold a candle to a kidney stone. Women who have had both natural childbirth and kidney stones have told me the stone was much worse.

If you've had a kidney stone, you know what I mean. If you haven't, consider yourself lucky. The only good this is you know immediately when it passes. It's like someone threw a switch and turned off the pain. One minute you're rolling on the floor screaming in pain and the next you're completely calm as if nothing ever happened.

+100

Before I had stones I had a few other candidates one being severe classic migraine with blindness first... or the constant burning pain of PN in your feet.

for injuries though I would say a skiing crash where at high speed in powder snow left ski went under concealed tree trapping the ski boot (modern vault like construction boot) foot extracted by momentum of all 235lbs 6'4" of me at 50mph+ while boot did not move rather like squeezing a tube if toothpaste with the foot as paste...manny broken boons and torn ligaments and muscles in foot as well as dislocated knee and hip as well as whiplash spine pain passed out from pain several times during 2 hour long extraction off mountain... worst was when shock wore off while on the sled... every jounce was agony.... 5 operations and months of PT; early PT required large shots of painkillers.

But nothing was like the 27 hours I was at sea on a 40 foot sail boat with no pain killers when I had my first bout of kidney stones after I got ashore to a hospital I had shots for the pain and the pain was still a 10 but the pain meds dull you enough that you do not remember it much later now a bottle of said pills is kept near no matter where I am in case there is another attack Gall stones were not fun either bot nothing like the kidney stones

Cheers

Windy
