Welcome Home!

Thanks for serving from myself and my better half, who come here from Vietnam when she was 7. She has always been thankful for our soldiers as her family were farmers south of Saigon.

Bob, Happy Birthday to Mrs. Utah Bob!

Apparently,if you live in Whittier, you already missed it.

Congress passed it in 2010. Looks like it ain't caught on much. It's the thought that counts I reckon.

Senate Declares March 30th as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day”

Resolution Introduced by Senator Richard Burr

Washington D.C – The U.S. Senate yesterday declared March 30th as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day,” agreeing unanimously to a resolution introduced by Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

On March 30, 1973, all U.S. troops withdrew from Vietnam under the terms of the Treaty of Paris. This March 30th, the Senate has encouraged Americans across the country to recognize Vietnam veterans for their sacrifice and demonstrate a warm welcome to these soldiers who returned from war to a politically divided country.

“I’m pleased that the Senate has agreed to set aside a day to give our Vietnam veterans a warm, long-overdue welcome home. I strongly encourage communities throughout North Carolina and across the country to observe this day with activities and events that honor these veterans for their service. It’s time they receive the recognition they have earned and deserve. This day also provides our nation with an important teaching moment. Never again should our men and women serving in the armed forces receive the same treatment as those returning from Vietnam,” said Senator Richard Burr.

Senator Burr introduced the resolution for the second consecutive year on February 16, 2011. For Senator Burr’s remarks on the introduction of the resolution,

The United States became involved in Vietnam because policy-makers believed that if South Vietnam fell to a communist government, communism would spread throughout the rest of Southeast Asia. The US Armed Forces began serving in an advisory role to the South Vietnamese in 1961, and in 1965, ground combat troops were sent into Vietnam. On March 30, 1973, after many years of combat, all US troops withdrew. More than 58,000 members of the United States Armed Forces lost their lives and more than 300,000 were wounded in Vietnam.

Senators John Boozman (R-AR), Thad Cochran (R-MS), James Inhofe (R-OK), and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Mike Johanns (R-NE) co-sponsored the legislation.

Guess the news media didn't think it was newsworthy. Not surprising.

I think I need a drink.

Thank you. When I came home, no one outside of my family said a thing. For years it hurt but several years ago one of my customers said "thanks for your service", the pain went away. I never fail to say "thanks for your service" to all the vets I meet and all people in uniform.

You guys went through hell, and then caught more of it stateside. i would like to say, I apologize for those who didn't know better. some of them still don't get it, and that's a sin.

My SIL was a VN era service woman, but didn't last long enough to get more than just medical from VA. The guys I worked with that did come back had their share of problems, some made it through them, some didn't and were pretty messed up.

Personally, I admire you and am greatful for the service you rendered to our country :FlagAm::blush:

I wonder if Hallmark is behind this?:lol:

I'll be taking the little lady over to Durango to shop for her birthday and then to the Injun casino to donate reparation money to the tribe's coffers.

Be back tomorrow. :D:FlagAm:

Nice thought, but 42 years late for me. I'm not being negative, but this "don't mean nothing" to me. I've been to the Wall and it knocked me to me knees. That is a sacred place to me. I don't need Congress to recognize me now.

What IS important to me is that we, as a nation, have finally recognized what sacrifices our military have endured. I always thank a young vet when I see them in the airport or where ever. I'm very glad they are finally getting the recognition and thanks Vietnam vets missed.

God bless our military!!!

Regards,

Ten Sleep Good Guy
