northman
Pards, Some years ago when I attended the Civil War and other 19th Century type Rendezvous these early to mid 1800s Large Cent coins were pretty popular. They were found on Indian trade blankets, peddlers' rough sawn tables and some even wore them as jewelry. All these coins date from before the Civil War and all are authentic. I'm not a grader of coins I'm just selling them as Era coins from that time period. These coins traveled in the pockets and coin purses of trappers, miners, businessmen, saloon girls, homesteaders, cowboys etc. etc. They are a part of our American history. This is what occured in the years these coins were minted. 1828 John Quincy Adam is president 1st edition of Noah Webster's dictionary published Andrew Jackson elected 7th president of US 1830 Plans for city of Chicago laid out 1st locomotive in U.S., "Tom Thumb," runs from Baltimore to Ellicotts Mill 3 Indian tribes, Sioux, Sauk and Fox, signs a treaty giving the U.S. most of Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ends Mexican War; U.S. acquires Texas California, New Mexico and Arizona for $15 million. President Polk triggers Gold Rush of '49, confirms California gold discovery General Zachary Taylor elected as president of US I have three latrge cent coins dated 1828, 1848 ($15.00 each) and a nice coin looking to be from 1830 but the date is worn away for $10.00. The scan doesn't really show the coins in detail well. The Mercury Head dime is used as a comparision in size. http://i28.photobuck...ecents10001.jpg http://i28.photobuck...ts1back0001.jpg Indian Head Cents These are always a favorite as a few were still in circulation when many of us were kids.
