Virgil Ray Hality, SASS# 37355
So, for the first time is avery long time, I looked through a peep sight on a friends rifle and I noticed that the center of the hole had a gray spot! Is this normal or are my eyes getting tired?

Is this normal or are my eyes getting tired? I've noticed the same thing on my T/C Hawkens. The sight is clean, and no, the gray spot wasn't the the front sight. Maybe it's just a phonomenon (sp) that happens for some of us. Cleburne
Cap'n Highpockets
You might ought to see an eye specialist. If it is Macular Degeneration, it will not get better with time. There are 2 types, one is treatable & the not, although I have heard there maybe a treatment for both now. Consult a doctor ASAP.

I have regular eye exams, and it's not anything I see outside of using a peep sight.
Wyandot Jim
Well it sure isn't the sight. I have 12 rifles with tang sjghts and no grey spot. Jim
Crusty
Virgil, Try this. 1. While looking through the peep sight move it back and forth and see if it gets better. I had the same problem and had to adjust the vertical angle some. 2. Go back to your ophthalmologist. Have him check the center of your lens for a cataract. Years after I fixed the peep sight, that was the culpret.
Charlie Harley, #14153
Try adjusting the aperture size if you can. Maybe screw in a new aperture or dial a different size. I've noticed the gray spot occasionally with my rifles and opening the aperture fixes it. I don't know if it's a combination of available light or what that causes the spot. John Boy
Virgil, have no idea what is causing the gray spot in the ocular. Suggestion: Take a #55 number drill and drill the ocular out to 0.052. That will let more light in just like a Hadley Cup. If that doesn't help, use a #49. Might want to also talk to your ophthalmologist too
