Guess the planners were tired of the "plane-falling-out-of -the-sky" scenario and decided to add White Supremists and guns to the mix.

Should thrown in bin Laden for a cameo appearance and got EVERYBODY all worked up.

The grant money was probably conditional on the state of Iowa following the guidelines laid down in DHS document IA-0257-09, titled "(U//FOUO) Rightwing Extremeism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment". You are included as an extremist if you (1) are a veteran, (2) unemployed, (3) pro-gun, (4) anti-illegal immigration, (5) anti-communist, or (6) openly identify yourself as an American.

Simply staging an incident in which a student would shoot someone because they are unhappy over a grade or have an altercation with a teacher doesn't meet the definition of a terrorism incident, Reed said.

One wonders why they have to set up some background story in the first place? Seems like they could go with just the tactical situation, something like "OK, we have two suspects, at least, white males, armed and shooting people. There may be more, we don't know yet. They have shot (pick a number) that we know of, some dead, some wounded. We need to stop them."

Kevin Elwood, superintendent of Treynor Community Schools, said today he has received about 30 emails from people throughout the Midwest who have seen plans for the crisis drill and have asked, "What is your school district thinking?"

Elwood said he has been involved in the planning of the exercise for about two months, but the first he learned of the fictitious scenario was Wednesday when copies of the plans were circulated. He noted that a disclaimer on the plan says that details and circumstances of the scenario "reflect no actual conditions, attitudes or current threat assessments in or around Pottawattamie County, the City of Treynor, its citizens or the Treynor Community School District."

"It is unfortunate the kind of black cloud that is hanging over this because of the misunderstanding of the scenario that was painted," Elwood said. "This is not applicable to anything we have intended to portray or utilize as part of the drill. We are not going to have crazy people running around the building shouting inappropriate things. There is no need for that. We wouldn't condone that."

The good Mr. Elwood seems to be clueless about the concerns people are voicing. It isn't that there may be "crazy people running around...shouting inappropriate things" that has people upset, but that people who express some core American values are being demonized as terrorists. People understand the scenario perfectly well.

Dang..

"Terrorist" is a label that is thrown around WAYYY too loosely nowadays, IMHO..There are those who will brand any group or individual a "terrorist" that don't agree with their agenda..While at the same time portraying real terrorists as misunderstood freedom fighters..

True. More often than not its days or weeks before anyone knows the real details. Of course jackasses like Bloomberg will go around running their big yaps HOPING the perp is a home grown disgruntled hillbilly (remember the Times Square bomber).
