Scotchtape Is Your Friend

Recommended Posts

Did a teardown and cleanup on the Vaqueros today, and figured out a trick I thought I'd pass along.

There are two spring & plunger units - one pushes on the bolt, the other on the pawl. A strip of scotchtape to hold them in place while putting the gripframe back on keeps them aligned and from backing out of the back of the mainframe. Once the gripframe is in place, pull the tape out and screw everything down.

Saves a lot of having parts popping loose or getting a spring pinched. A strip of tape to hold the hammer pin in place while wrestling with the gate spring / trigger pin assembly helps too.

Now I know why there were no Vaqueros in the 19th century.

Gunsmiths had no scotch tape to help put them back together! :P

Great idea Woodrow.

See ya at Tusco in a coupla weeks?

Outstanding! Why didn't I think of that? Or the hula-hoop, for that matter!

If you can't find any Scotch tape, let your left index and thumbnails grow some (if you are left handed, then the right index and thumbnails). They can hold the springs and plungers in place whilest you screw things up with the other hand!:D

Howdy Dawg! Gonna try to make it. May have to use a vacation day, but it'd be worth it. Been a long damn winter and I'm ready to burn powder!
