Howdy Tinpan,

SSD is not one of the "officially recognized" SASS categories.

However, ANY match at ANY level may offer additional categories as requested. Most require a minimum number of participants for category recognition.

Examples of other "non-standard" offerings include:

Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter (offered this year at EoT)

Senior Gunfighter

Cattle Baron

Outlaw

Josey Wales

Pale Rider

Sodbuster

...as well as many other 'local' variations.

Most of the more popular of these categories have a set of rules published for consistency from one match to another.

Thanks PWB,

But what are the "basis" of the following extra (non official) catégories:

Cattle Baron

Outlaw (I think it's hip shooting all the guns?)

Josey Wales

Pale Rider

Sodbuster

Thank you for giving an idea.

Well...When I shoot in the Catle Baron category, that's when I hire some Gunfighter to shoot the match for me and I sit on the porch with a mint julip :P

The Josey Wales category allows you to leave your rifle in the cart and take four hand guns to the line. Some places allow 6 hand guns and no shotgun.

Howdy Curly,

Cattle Baron - 75+ (or what Charlie says) ^_^

The Outlaw Way

Pale Rider discussion

(+ a few others)

Sodbuster

*A Sodbuster is a shooter with one pistol, one rifle and one side by side shotgun.

I am not opposed to adding new categories and never have been. However, I have never understood why we have three Senior Categories, Senior, Silver Senior and Senior Duelist. Am I to believe that there is such cognitive and psycho motor deterioration between 60 and 65 that a separate category is needed at age 65. I don't believe it. I happen to shoot as a Senior Duelist. It just so happens that I will celebrate my 80th birthday this coming May 1, 2011. That is a twenty year difference between me and a 60 year old Senior Duelist. I do not want to be called a Cattle Baron. My request is simple. Before we start considering a Silver Senior Duelist category, how about adding an Elder

Statesman/Grand Dame Duelist category. It is a long time due.;)
