Boot Strap Jack, SASS#75809
I have a AYA Winner shotgun with grenner style lock. The problem is on firing the thing is a pain to open. I can see that the firing pins are not retracting soon enough. What can be done with this, or who is a good smith to do this work?
Doc Fill 'Em 67797
A lot of things can be fixed with a good cleaning. It's possible the firing pin channels are dirty and that's binding up the pins. There is usually a spring in there to retract the pin. You could try spraying some solvent into the holes and see if that helps. The end of the pin can also mushroom over time and make them bind. Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Can also be caused by cheap shells. If you are using shells with aluminum or steel colored bases try some quality brass based shells (Winchester AA or Remington STS) and see how they work. John Boy
I can see that the firing pins are not retracting soon enough Take off the butt stock - drop some 50:50 mix of ATF:Acetone in the firing pin holes and on the sears and links - scrub with a tooth brush. Open and close the action to see if the pins are freely retracting. If so, put some light gun oil on the parts - assemble it and have fun If you are not successful, possibility one or more pins are bent or the tips are out of round. This too will preclude them retracting smoothly back into the block Jack, you might be interested in this ... When W. Greener died in 1869, his son W.W. Greener merged the two companies into one. His next patent was the self-acting striker, followed by a famous cross-bolt mechanism produced as a single top bolt, in 1865. In 1873, this cross-bolt mechanism was combined with the bottom holding down bolts to produce the "Treble Wedge-Fast" breech action. The treble wedge-fast was one of the strongest breech actions ever invented and was widely copied by other manufacturers, after the patent rights expired. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._W._Greener
