What you fellers do for a living?

After 10 years of being a teacher I have resigned under pressure. Tough year even tougher children. I had problems MULTITASKING keeping up with grading and and the paper work has absolutely gotten ridiculous.

My plan is to read the bible each day, pray, and watch video sermons during spring break. Please pray for me. I could not have a finer more supportive wife than the one I have. She is an Assistant Principal in Coppell.

Fortunately, I have a job as a certified driving instructor. I love doing this. It is a fun right of passage event for teenagers. I excel at this endeavor. When a student shows promise I have them do each and every maneuver from the first lesson (Parallel Parking, Perpendicular Parking, Backing in a straight line, U Turn, Three Point turn around, drive way turn around, lane changes, and on the 5th lesson entering the freeway with lane changes.) Yes, I have Nerves of Steel. I excel at teaching the more nervous children to conquer their fears and not be afraid to do their best.

This summer I am going to take the training to teach drivers ed in the classroom. You have to be a certified teacher in Texas to be able to do this.

I am thinking of Driving School Buses to keep up my teachers retirement years of service. Some of this is up in the air because I jest dunno.

Not really so,

Shameless

I make my gold dust as a Database Administrator. In my free time, I'm a husband to one fine lady, a father of 2 teenagers, a volunteer Firefighter/EMT. Next month I start Beekeeping with my youngest as another hobby. Maybe in June I'll start the supermodel interviewer thingy... . A man's gotta have his hobbies...

Being a dad takes up most of my time, when I get time for me it's mostly leather work, but also write songs for Alligator Records' artists. Someone's got to sing them, I shore cain't. I sneak in some sign and prop painting too. Do more now being retired than I ever did working.

Spent the first half of my life wearin' camoflauge and bustin' brush or plowin' sand (dependin' on the location) in an M-1 tank. Got out and did some outside sales. Hated it. Figgered I wasn't low enough on the social totem pole, so I went back to law school. Worked in the "big firm" for a while, then decided I liked working for myself. I run a small town solo practice now. If'n I keep practicin', I might actually get the hang of it eventually.

My shootin' pards usually seem excited 'bout learnin' my occupation til they find out I don't do no divorces or criminal work.....

I've been in the graphic design field for over 40 years and just called it quits a few months ago.

My first job when returning from the service was with The Western Union Telegraph Co. (the advertising department)

Had my own design firm for the last 5 years before retiring.

We designed packaging, promotional materials, trade show graphics, web sites and ads for major corporations.

It was fun in the beginning, but when computers entered the scene (late 80s)... things changed.

Seems like clients think all you have to do is hit a key on the computer and the creative concept and design appears.

We would get a job in on a Wednesday and 5,000 printed pieces were needed on Friday. Seriously.

I'm in the same business and have been on my own for the last 26 years. I design websites, marketing communications, ads, billboards -- you name it. Before that I was an art director for Hallmark Cards.

ZZ, that "D" on your keyboard is for "design". Just tap it and magical things appear instantly. At least that's what some people expect.

My two cents worth. I am a retired accountant. I retired a couple of times, the first time as an accountant with Kellogg Company, the second time as an part time accountant with a community health center. I have become a tax consultant to my children, my father and father-in-law. I also change a diaper now and then (my grandchildren, not myself).

I am in the scrap business...the "original recyclers". Been buying and selling raw materials for the steel and foundry industry since, well, a long time ago. Didn't get into medical school and had to make a living so I went to work in a scrap yard. As they say, the rest is history.

USAF veteran (Air Police/Security Police) and retired District of Columbia Corrections Officer. Since retiring, I've also been a freight handler for Target, a security guard in a postage stamp processing facility, private investigator, insurance fraud investigator, and gun salesman at Gander Mountain. The job I've had the longest since retiring is the one I have now, security training specialist for a large gubmint contractor in the DC area.

Actually, one of the neatest things about this sport is that I have many friends that I have known for years, but I don't know their real names or what they do in that other world. I kind of like that.

As for me, I'm in my 37th year of practicing law. I started as an assistant county prosecutor followed by a stint in the state attorney general's office. I've been in private practice since late '82.

After 7 years as an engineer/manager with Procter and Gamble, making soap and Pampers disposable diapers, and another 24 years as a dog and cat mechanic in veterinary private practice, I am now a Public Health Veterinarian with the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, supervising food inspectors in slaughterhouses and food processing establishments.

Anyone who thinks black powder is messy has never worked in a slaughterhouse...

Yup, buncha diverse occupations among us. Some sound mighty interesting.

Me, I'm a Tool Design Engineer for that big Northwest assembler. Yeah, most of what we do is assembly, most of the actual manufacturing has been outsourced.

Worked for six years as a designer for a spud harvesting and handling company along the way. Where? Where else, SE Idaho!

Usta work as a log log faller in the Big Belt Mountains of Montana and a Western Montana ranch hand when I was young and foolish...got smart late and graduated college when I was 38.

Part time woodworker, too. Enjoy making small pieces outa big ones, then puttin the pieces back together. Mostly small stuff - revolver presentation boxes are my latest. Doll furniture for my wife's (and other folks as the need arises) American Girl dolls. Fancy wood cutting boards, wooden toys....

What I've done sounds kinda boring compared to some of the things you other folks do.

I'm new and not known to most folks here...hope to change that over time.

Anyway, I'm an Assistant Principal for a nice-sized Virginia high school. I'm so busy trying to parent other folks' children, I struggle to find time to devote to improving/enhancing instruction. But, there's hope and I'm going to keep the 'dream' alive! :P

I've been a full time mom,

graphic secretary for a large church,

taught adults how to use Microsoft Office at our local junior college.

For the last 6 years I have been the computer teacher and technology director for an elementary school.

I'm responsible for teaching kids and fixing computers, printers, white boards, etc.

My most important job is building self-esteem....hugging the kids that don't get hugs at home.

I have been in the foundry industry for over 45 years. I started at a foundry as a production control clerk, going to school nights. I left 23 years later as CEO. I stayed with the corporate conglomerate that had owned the foundry for another 2 years mostly in acquisitions. I started a sales and marketing company 22 years ago serving the foundry industry. I primarily serve the users of sand castings, investment castings, and forgings.

I have turned a lot of the daily functions over to others, but I still stay involved and enjoy the business contacts of the business. I plan to stay somewhat involved as long as possible. I don't believe retirement is not working at all, it's working when you want to.

Three years ago I retired from a Navy logistics job. I was the deputy director of maritime weapons systems support.

Then I became a military consultant, and I run the Pennsylvania region for a national consulting company.

And, for the last 23 years I've been a magazine writer/photographer/editor. Currently I'm the B-P editor for Guns of the Old West mag and I do the reloading column for Combat Handguns.

Are you a good witch or a bad witch?

During my time managing plants, I had some good VIC's, most were okay, but I had one that was beyond wicked. She would tell the U.S.D.A. circuit supervisor to kiss her behind, so you can only imagine what I dealt with. FYI, my attitude was such that a VIC who was looking out for the public was protecting my job, but one who went on power trips was the enemy of everyone. I'm betting you're a good witch. :)
