Pay Dirt Norvelle #90056
Been retarded (retired) for 5 years. Before that I worked for the judicial system of the State of California. 24 years in the Superior (trial) Court of which 20 years was as a courtroom clerk. Then 16 years for the District Court of Appeal (Intermediate Appelate Court) I had to put up with attorneys for 40 years and that is the reason I am somewhat weird. Irish Red OToole, #48939
Spent 20 years in banking, the last 5 as a branch manager/VP. Got tired of listening to others visions of success so I opened my own business. I own a gun shop in ....wait for it..... California. Whether you think that makes me a masochist or insane, it's been a really great time calling the shots myself. There have been some bumps along the way but my wife and I have been very happy for the last 5 years owning Fort Courage Armory.
Pulp, SASS#28319
Nothin' fancy here, I was a science teacher in the distant past, got tired of having to work week-ends at WalMart and drive a bus route to subsidize the teaching salary. In '87 I quit those three jobs to take one better paying job in a paper mill. I started in shipping, bid to #2 paper machine, bid to #3 paper machine, and now in the recycled fiber department. We recycle up to 1700 tons/day of old boxes and other paper back into the fiber that is used to make new paper. Right now I'm in the control room, 02:15AM. The paper machines are on lightweight, so they're not using much of our fiber. The #3 plant is the only one running, and it's slowed back to around 850tpd. Probably be that way all week-end. I've posted warnings before about being careful what you throw away, 'cause we find all sorts of personal information in the bales. Magazines with address labels, cancelled checks, old tax forms, you name it, we've found it. This place is an ID theft specialist's dream come true. There's been tools, coins (I found a 1837 half dollar, a friend found some quarters made in the 1890's) diamond rings, class rings, even a SuperBowl ring found in the rejects kicked out by the cleaning systems. I once found the barrel and upper receiver of an AK-47. I took it to the local police dept, they called in the serial # to ATF, and were told that gun was not in the country, at least by legal means. One night a bale broke open and a bunch of folders fell out. Turned out to be medical records from the mental wing of a hospital in Amarillo, TX. There's some weird folks out there. We also found a bunch of mammograms from a women's clinic in Overland Park, KS. Complete with names and addresses. I didn't realize those things came in so many shapes and sizes. We've also come across some really gross stuff, like vials of blood from labs, and the needles used to draw the blood. Anyway, tear the mailing labels off all your old magazines and put them in recycling bins. I can always use new reading material.
Smithy
There sure are a lot of qualified, experienced workers on this thread here. I feel embarrassed to admit what I've been doing for the last few years. Due to my long exposure to diabetes, I have been put on disability and have been drawing SSI for an income. Prior to that I dispatched for a department of 200 at a nuclear power plant (not with tsunami concerns). Now I invest in cowboy guns when and if able. Smithy. Red Steele
These are by far my favorite threads. I really enjoy seeing what the breadth and depth of experience and knowledge is here on the wire and in our sport. I have been a plumbing contractor for 20 years, I just recently veered down a new career path as a data center facilities engineer. For the first time in 20 years of formal work I have a job that is steady 40 + hours a week with full benefits, paid vacations and sick time. It is taking some getting used to but I am starting to like it!!

John William McCandles #963
They say I'm an Automation Controls Technician but when your working for a small manufacturing plant you wear many hats, so I do all the electrical, help with engineering, general maintenance, fabrication and such. Mostly a jack of all trades type deal. I am retired Navy but that don't pay the bills. Would like to retire and devote more time to reenacting and CAS along with my quarter horses. I contract with a local court to provide a specialized family therapy model to families of teens who are first offenders and low risk. Generally, instead of telling parents what to do. I teach them how to do it, such as having behavior rules, enforcing rules, giving rewards/consequences, keeping track of their kids, and increasing positive interaction between parent(s)/teen.
