Howdy,

I'm taking my family on vacation to Tampa, Florida this summer. And I was wondering if you got any suggestion for places, parks etc. to visit. And off cource(and most important) tips on what places I should pay a visit to get some cowboy outfit and accessories.

Don't know that area, but I hope you enjoy your trip!

We really liked Oslo and Bergen when we visited your country!

I have only lived in the Tampa area for a couple of years but the popular local attractions seem to be:

Busch Gardens- A theme park/wildlife preserve

Hard Rock Casino

Beaches- Clearwater, St. Pete

Ft DeSoto- old fort from the Spanish/American timeframe, Not the most interesting tour, but the beach is nice there so you can go to the beach and take a quick tour of the fort.

Local CAS clubs- Miakka Misfits in Manatee and Doodle Hill Regulators in Ruskin. The DHRs don't shoot in the summer, but Miakka does (3rd Sunday). The club where Miakka shoots also has a 1,000 yard range if you are into precision rifles. There is also a club in St Petersburg, but I have yet to shoot there.

As far as cowboy outfits, there isn't really anyplace that I can think of that sells period clothing. There is a place called Cowboys east of Tampa (Plant City) that sells western wear, but it is modern western wear instead of CAS.

If you like old airplanes, the Weeks Air Museum in Polk City east of Tampa is great.

For a day at the beach, Honeymoon Island State Park is hard to beat.

For a little change of pace:

Both are directly north of Tampa.

And of course, you will be only 85 miles west of Orlando, which has Disney World, Sea World, and other attractions.

Disney's Animal Kingdom is a great place to visit. Its the only tourist park I would go back to a 2nd time.

If you and the spouse need an excellent steak dinner go to Bern's Steak House. One of the best steak dinners in the country. Expensive but worth it. I wouldn't take the kids though. They more than likely wouldn't appreciate the quality.

Wow, it's hard to know where to start.

On or about June 28th, the is supposed to be a Space Shuttle launch.........sometimes it goes up, sometimes not. When it does go up, it'll more than likely by the last one. About 2 hrs away

The entire Orlando theme park thing, Disney, Sea World, ect. About 1 hr away

Cowboy shoots in the area; St. Pete (1/2 hr), Miakka (1hr), Howie or Eustis (1.50hr), Hernando (1hr) and Orlando.

Busch Gardens in Tampa

Cowboy clothes........well, lets just say that the economic downturn has caused some stores to cut back on clothes. They still have boots and hats, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit them......expecially with gas prices the way they are.

The beaches of Pinellas County are pretty much great white sand beaches and nice to visit for the tourist. .5hr to the west.

Bern's Steakhouse........MMMMM Good, in Tampa, expensive though.

Any of the spring fed rivers are very nice to visit.

One thing to keep in mind is that Florida in the Summer is very hot and humid. Don't bring warm clothes, you won't need them. Shorts, T-shirts and swim gear is the norm.

Don't forget your flip flops and cowboy clothes. Don't worry about bringing shooting gear, we'll set you up with guns, leather and ammo. Let us know when you plan on visiting.........we'll hook you up with all you need for shooting a match in Florida.

Pard,

Try the grilled swordfish.

Its sorta like a cross between steak and tuna.

And all the fish is so darn fresh even I liked it.

Best

One thing I forgot...

Depending on when you will actually be here, if you have never seen a NASCAR stock car race before, there are races on Friday and Saturday night, July 1st and 2nd, in Daytona Beach. Granted, it is on the other side of the state, but still only about a 2.5 hour drive to the other end of I-4.

When you get tired of the horrible traffic in Tampa you can go to Orlando...where it's worse.

Depending on the age of your kids...

Gatorland in Orlando.

Spent three days at the various Disney Parks.

Our flight home was in the afternoon, so we went to Gatorland on the morning of our last day as just something to do.

My girl thought Disney was ok - she raves about Gatorland to this day.

Of course - her TV is on Animal Planet almost all the time it is on.

Disney World in the heat of summer is miserable. Over crowded, waiting in long lines for rides, kids crying and whining at the Happiest Place On Earth.

If we go in the summer we go at dusk and stay 'till closing time, usually 10, depending on which park you are in. You can beat a lot of the heat that way, and about half of the people with little kids leave right around sun set.

I'm a little bit south of you, but Deadlee Headlee at Miaka or Chance Ramsey at Ruskin are up that a way....both put on a good shoot and as usual you will find the pards and pardettes to be friendly folk.
