Where can I buy decent targets?

Evening Yall-

I have been doing some internet searching for some targets to practice on and figured I would just ask the forum. I have found a few websites that offer cowboy action targets and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I am just looking to get two or three to practice on and they would have to be decently mobile since I would take them home when I am done at the range.

Some of the examples I found are:

http://www.customsteeltargets.com/Cowboy_Action_Targets.html

http://www.actiontargetbeta.com/store/catalog/category/view/id/16

http://www.metaltargets.com/SpecialtyTargets.htm

Any information is appreciated as always.

Guess I could always use balloons until I figure out something a bit better for practice times.

Thanks

Balloons are a pain - they move in the wind, and have to be remounted every time you hit 'em. Use paper plates on target stands (or in a pinch cardboard boxes) as an cheap easy to setup target. Black marker or spray paint in the flat part of the plate.

Good luck, GJ

As mentioned above Action Targets makes excellent and portable CAS targets. They come with your choice of head shaped and sizes, circles, the standard card shapes, SASS cowboy etc. They are physically located in north Springville/south Provo but have an excellent web site which is simply "Actiontarget.com". I just wish I had picked up five or six while my son-in-law still worked there on his discount. You can't beat the bang and clang for immediate feedback on hits and misses with paper plates or anything else, except maybe the targets that hold clay pigeons.

See if you can get contact Smokey Sue out of Maine, DBA Bullet Proof Targets. He is making some really good stuff but shipping would be hell. Rusty P Bucket is doing sponsors for the Nor'Easter and should be able to put you in touch, here is a link to the shoot website....

Don't worry about the different shapes, you just pay more for an effectively smaller target.

If you want a smaller target, get a smaller target( rather than pay for someone to cut holes or designs in the target.)

Best target for the $ is rectangular.

Circles are also good to practice on, but normally, you are paying for steel you will never see.

now here something that you do not see very often when you do a google search on a company name

Your search - "Bullet Proof Targets" Maine - did not match any documents.

leave off the Maine and you get a bunch of hits relating to bullet points in documents

in this day of computer driven commerce I get the feeling he wants only word of mouth driven contact

Doc it may be that Sue doesnt have a website and I dont have his address on hand but am certain Rusty could put JG in touch. Sue built a bunch of targets for the Nor'Easter and IIRC is going to be the main match sponsor for this years event.

Beerman Ill second Iron Pony's recommendation of Smokey Sue. VMV placed a order for targets with him,his targets are second to none and he is sort of local. If you were to order from him Id be willing to bet he could set up delivery with you at one of the shoots in New England. Saving on shipping would allow you to by More Targets, sorta like buying more guns. edit If you would like to contact him I will PM you his information. Adios Sgt. Jake

Arntzen targets are good. Action Targets are the best.

Hard to beat the Evil Roy setup. Stand folds down and stacks nicely. The standard target is small but I think this is best; practice on them and "standard" CAS targets will look as big as a house! Don't bother with the AT static stands. They are great if you have a range, a real PITA if you're hauling them!

The trick with the AT ER target stands is take the plate off. (two wingnuts) Each stand has a high and low setting (handy having two settings on the same stand) While the three feets are still on the ground, pull up and rotate the head 90/180 deg there's now a handle right there. Pick it up like a suitcase!

Of course surveyor stakes and paper plates are very cost effective but you don't get that bang-clang feedback. Much better to practice on steel if you can.

I outfitted two different ranges when I worked at that with Action Target stuff, their equipment and support is top-shelf. When I was rangemaster of my local club, guess what we bought? ;):)
