MMJ#89586
Which ruger is it that you can use for the blackhawk to change the hammers. I want a lower profile hammer on my blackhawk but can't remember which hammer to get.

Tucson Jim
The SuperBlackhawk and Montado hammers are basically the same thing. The latter is also seen on the "SASS Special Edition" New Vaqueros. The differences between the two are mainly cosmetic involving the thumb pad checkering pattern. Both have recently been made legal for SASS when fitted to a non-Bisley-model Ruger (in other words, you can't mix this hammer with the Bisley grip frame...). Because SASS just legalized 'em, everybody and his brother are out looking for them . Supplies are getting ugly - backorders at Brownells, Midway, you name it. Ron Powers is rumored to be working on his version of the SBH hammer. This will be a LOT more expensive but you get what you pay for: a Ron Powers hammer and trigger set for roughly $170ish based on the prices on his current stuff is basically a drop-it-in-yourself high-end trigger job. You also get half-cock loading which can be particularly useful on the large-frame guns that don't have the loading gate action improvements of the mid-frames like the NewVaqs. You might want to call Ron, see what his status is on his SBH hammer/trigger sets: http://www.powercustom.com
