Need Help

OK, I've got a pal with an Iver Johnson .22 mag lever gun. It was made by Erma. There is no model number that I can find. The serial # is 0020XX. I'd say it is in NRA "very good" condition (stock has some small dings and scratches). It's a neat looking little gun. Action is very smooth.

My friend was tolt this story of how there were less than 50 of 'em made and they are worth $$$$$, yada, yada. I tried to bring his expectations down a bit, but the truth is I have NO IDEA of its value. I said I'd help him out since he lost his job and needs the money. I haven't been able to find much info.

I found these, but it ain't much:

Any info (especially as to its value) would be appreciated.

It doesn't matter if they made 5, 50 ,or 5,000,000. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you like the gun and want to help out a friend in need, tell him to take it around to the local dealers and let them tell him what it's worth. Then tell him you will pay slightly more than they say. You'll probably be able to buy it for about $100.

Thanks, Doc. My problem is no so much that I want it, I'd be more interested if it was .22 LR. It's that I want my friend to have an idea of it's value so he doesn't get taken to the cleaners - or spend his whole life thinking it's worth $2,500.

Tell your friend to sell it to the person who told him how valuable it is. Make that gentleman put up or shut up. Talk is cheap, and I have seen too many people who don't have a dog in the fight interfear and ruin a deal for the other people.

Shore wish I could find some more in on the gun for him, though. I thought some Iver Johnson experts would chime in.

The gun has little collector value, most likely. No, it was not one of only 50 made, unless there is something very unusual about this particular gun, like a brass frame or something unusual. The gun is just barely mentioned in the classic collectors reference on Iver Johnson guns by Bill Golightly.

You could ask on this "What's it worth" forum:

And probably get an answer about the value. A guide to firearms prices (there will be one or two in any good bookstore) probably shows a range of values (which depend highly on condition). If I remember these Erma lever guns right, it was probably manufactured in the late 60s to early 80s, during Iver Johnson's "death throes".

Good luck with it. GJ
