Boondock Saint, #70146 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I was in one of the local gun shops today and was doing some daydreaming. Right in the middle of a bunch of Cobra Derringers, there was a stainless American Derringer. It was in .38 special and had white grips with some sort of a flower on it. It was a good looking gun, but maybe just a bit girly, or maybe not. Anyhow, I need a Derringer about like I need another hole in my head, but, we all know how important need is when considering a firearm purchase. The sticker price was $399.99. I don't know anything about these guns. Is that price low, high, or about right? Thanks pards, Boondock
macinaw Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I payed 400 for an American Derringer Model 1 357mag. at a gun show. New price around 750 to 800
Danite SASS #27034 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 If it was new and a model 1 that is a good price. I paid considerably more for one that I have had Aspen Filley fully engrave.

Thanks pards, Boondock If it was a American Derringer thats a great price. The American Derringer is like owning a Cad. instead of a chevy. The one I got for sale on the forum I paid over $500 for.and like the bond you can get extra barrels for it too. cobra
Long Branch Louie Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Saw a very clean .45/.410 in a local shop today for $350. I disagree about American being the Cadillac. Bonds are built like a tank, and although the action is a little lighter, the American was a little small in my hands. It's also tougher to open than a Bond. I'm not knocking an American, they are very nice derringers, but I just like a Bond better.
Danite SASS #27034 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I believe the Bond is cast and the American milled from a solid block, that is the difference in price for the most part. The first time I tried to open my american derringer I had to break it open over my knee.

The first time I tried to open my american derringer I had to break it open over my knee. Nope...I'm pretty sure they're both milled from a solid block. The American is more along the fine lines of the early Remington while the Bond is built like the proverbial brick shipyard. I think the Davis/Cobra is cast, if I'm not mistaken.
Stormy Reinz, SASS #41707 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Bond's are cast. Just recently, only the 45 barrels are milled from a solid billet of steel.
