Can anyone ID this pocket watch?

Recommended Posts

No luck yet in trying to identify my grandfather's pocket watch.

Says "21 jewels" and "Fleurier Watch Co. Swiss" inside

Measures 1 3/4" diameter.

Looks to be 1900-1920s vintage.

Fleurier is a town in Switzerland where watches have been made since the 1700s.. There were 30 watch companies there by 1887.

The Fleurier Watch Co. was founded in the 1850s by J.S. Jequier.

If it has an "Arcadia" marking it could be very valuable. Arcadia was the flagship brand name of the Fleurie Watch Co and very high quality.

I can ID that watch for you. Yep, it's your Grandfathers watch alright. I seen him pull it out and look at it in 1954. I was just a wee tike and had never seen a watch without all the numbers on it before. I said "Hey Mister, why ain't there no number 6 on that watch?" He said "Go away kid, you bother me" Never saw him again, but I remembered that watch.

Are there any markings that don't show up in the photos?

No markings, just an embossed/debossed design in the circle under the hands.

an area between the 10 and 2 might have had a name plate at one time

but inside the back cover is inscribed

SUPREME

I.W.C.CO

and the serial number

IWC would indicate the case was made by the Illinois Watch Case company so you have a Fleurier action in and IWC case.

Elgin used IWC as did several other manufacturers.

Illinois? Or International? http://www.foxsgemshop.com/seattle/watches/11-about-iwc-watch-company.html

In either case, with that and the SN he should be able to track dwon wehn and where it was made.
