Legal WB loads (.45 ACP)

Howdy All,

I'd like to hear from anyone that loads WB (45ACP) loads using Clays and a 200 grain bullet AND has chronographed their load.

Last Saturday I chronographed some .38 loads that should have been going MUCH faster looking at Hodgdon's reloading data center.

I realize that there will be some variation from chamber, throat, barrel, temperature, humidity, etc. but the percentage difference between what was measured and what was in the loading data was A LOT.

I am going to go out and measure some WB .45 ACP loads this weekend. They are loaded with 3.9 grains of Clays and a 200 grain .452" LRNFP. According to Hodgdon's data those should be easily around 800 fps.

Anyone loading Clays with 200 grain RNFP that has chrono'd them? I'd like to see any data that you are willing to post.

I'll share my findings Saturday if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

-Pecos Paul

I don't have any to share, as I don't use Clays in .45 Auto. Sorry. WST is what I like a lot better.

Clays becomes much weaker in cold weather. Even 40 deg F can keep Clays from generating the same velocities and pressures as 70 deg, about what is used during loading data development.

Good luck, GJ

Paul, We aren't allowed to post reloading data on this forum. Go To Capt. Baylor's Wild Bunch for Dummies or register and go on the Wild Bunch forum and you will be able to get data there. (You load will just make it though)

Sorry Pards,

I wasn't aware that we weren’t supposed to post questions about loading on this forum. I'll check Capt. Baylor's post - but I don't recall seeing what I was looking for there.

My most humble apologies.

Thanks GJ - didn't realize that Clays was that sensitive to temperature. It was fairly cold here last Saturday (maybe just south of the 40 degree mark).

General questions about loading are fine and dandy, we're just not allowed to post actual loading recipes.
