Recently ordered some stainless tumbling media. Was kinda expensive 49.99 for 5 pounds. Tried half of it today on 200+ .45 LC's and boy did it work!! Brass is super shiny, it doesn't stick in the flash hole, can be cleaned, doesn't wear out (so far), and the media doesn't fly around the room when ya run it thru the separator!! Good Stuff!!

Where did you get it? I wonder how many uses you can get out of it???

Did you use it with the soap and water?

Did you use it in a regular tumbler or vibrating cleaner? Put anything else in with it?

what caliber of brass did you clean.

Thanks

just put in a Barry's (Cabelas) vibrating tumbler added a half teaspoon of mother's car wax cuz it makes cases slide thru the dies and is virtually undetectable on the brass.

Cinch, there just has to be a downside. From the website it does not look to be a brand new product. Could it be that you could get splinters handling brass in it and all. Non magnetic splinters are tough. I wonder how you would get things like the burned residue and powder out of the media.

I really like the concept and you had good luck, so I just might have to go for it. Those necked cases look great on the website.

Cinch, you may want to take a fish hook and see how many of your 200+ cases have mouths that are rounded in or dented from the agitation using SS media. The objective is to polish brass, not beat it up with a media harder than brass.

PS: Ceramic triangles also last forever too and they only polish!

Edit: Aluminum oxide media also scratches brass

It's a shame that another tumbler (and a rather costly one) has to be purchased to complete this kit just to try it out. It sure looks like a winner though. Smithy.

What did I miss? Where does it require another machine? Anybody else use this?

Thumler's Tumbler Model B High Speed - ships 2/11 (220V in stock)

$179.95

I made the assumption that with the liquid/media requirement that it also required the sealed Thumler's Tumbler Model B High Speed to go along with it. I may have been wrong, but I have an email going to the media folks to see what they have to say about its use and the tumbler thing. Smithy.

I can buy a lot of Lizard Litter for that amount of money. Too much hassle as well.

It does say that it will not work in a vibrator type tumbler, does your Cabelas tumbler use water?

Q. Will your media work in a vibratory type tumbler?

A. No, the media and the water weigh too much for the average type vibratory tumblers to get any results.

It states on the website that it does not work with a standard vibratory tumbler.

So it's going to take a $225 dollar investment for clean brass for most of us that have a vibrating tumbler. I think that will buy me a liftime supply of lizard litter and it gets more than clean enough now. I'm not looking to make my brass a showcase of cleanliness....Doc

OK guys... I have some questions for you guys that use "Lizard Litter". Do you use any sweetener on it? I've been on a hige fiber diet for a while now. It looks like the Lizard Litter might be a good alternate for my current product, but how is the taste? Do you use skim or whole milk with it? Does it "lock you up" or let you running freely? These are things that I feel must be addressed before switching to what is obviously a high fiber product.

I did not buy the tumbler and did not use the water as I didn't read the instructions before I started  I will probably try it with the water (but I hate wet cases) as I believe it is there to cushion the impact of the steel. I never liked the rotor type tumblers and won't buy one now. Like I said I put the stuff in with some car wax and left it for a couple of hours an when I returned it was clean. dumped it into the seperator and it didn't sprinkle the floor corn cob or whatever...

I was not concerned about the weeight I was putting in the tumbler cause I only used half of the media and 250 or so 45's (which weigh less than 38's cuz the hole is bigger ;) ) I didn't concern myself with distorting the case mouths either cuz I am gonna size and bell them anyway?

Hey if ya got something that works for ya then use it!! We can always go back to arguing Total Time...

Cinch, send me the other half of your stainless media and I will perform some experiments using both types of tumblers, with and without water, soap, that lemony stuff and compare it to walnut hulls, corn cob media, lizard litter and spit shining.

Since you have already performed the dry-with-car wax test, I won't cover it unless someone feels the need and wants to send me some car wax as well. I just used the last of my walnut hull media, so I need someone to send me some of that too...and corn cob...and lizard litter. I got the spit covered.

Oh, the things I do for the benefit of others. No COD's please.:ph34r:

And now being serious:

I actually have two Thumblers Tumblers. One was given to me a few years back and I stumbled upon one in a thrift store for $10. It was in the toy section apparently because they did not know what it was. I have encountered ceramic media before, but beyond the cost of the media, the company wanted to sell their solution. Combine that with the extra trouble to deal with the whole water thing caused me to decide against it.

Cinch, it seems as if you might have accidentally (by not reading the instructions) stumbled onto something that works using the car wax. It might serve the same purpose as the water (lubricating). I think folks like the idea of using media that you can't wear out, but they just don't want the expense of buying another tumbler or the hassle of the water. The car wax and conventional vibrator obviously worked for you, so I don't see why it couldn't work for others. If you have a boring day sometime, perhaps I could convince you to do a little video demonstration? Thanks for sharing.

I've got a Thumler's Tumbler. The ceramic media works fine, but I didn't like the water. Switched over to crushed walnut and don't see any difference from the ceramic.

Snakebit,

I use a leetle bit of liquad wax of whatever brand you like the best. I jest makes it slide down sooo easy.

I just thought of a question: Do you *have* to use water with ceramic or SS media? With chestnut, I toss in a couple of dryer sheets to pick up the powder; wouldn't it work with the other? Then you can rinse the ceramic or SS seperately.
