Mudflat Mike, SASS #20904 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I'm hot on the trail of a Remington "kiln cannon" that the owner says is a 4 bore. Can't find any info on this older unit. Anybody have an idea what I'm chasing? Just what I need, another cannon!
Boggus Deal #64218 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Mudflat, Check out this pic. This might be what you are looking at. http://beyondbrownpaper.plymouth.edu/item/7420 Sounds cool, either way.
Mogollon Munk,SASS#303 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 My understanding is most kiln cannons are 8 Bore
Stump Water Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 http://www.remington.com/product-families/ammunition/industrial/masterblaster-system.aspx I think they used to make a 4, can't find anything about it.
twelve mile REB Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Mike a 4 bore is a 19th century black powder elephant gun. I think a Remington would be an oddity or at least a special order all the 4-6-8 bores I have seen are European although I do have a Greener 2 bore thats 0.690 in. in dia. so it is possible that it is a catalog item. I have a loaded 4 bore round and it is 4.850 inches long, 1.029 inches in diameter at the base of the cartridge just ahead of the rim. The lead slug is 0.935 in dia. where it enters the case. I think the projectile weighs about a pound. If you run this down and decide not to buy it let me know because I sure do like them big guns. 12

Two bore should obviously be far more than .69- 12 gauge is about .729. Looking further down the DGW page, .690 is about 14-bore, .935 is between 5-6 bore.
Mudflat Mike, SASS #20904 Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 I'll post some photos if/when it's mine. Thanx all ya'all for the info, you found alot more than I did!
SlicLee SASS #16638 Life Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 What I remember is they are SXS rifles, accurate, heavy and kick like a Missouri mule.
