Frontier Lone Rider Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I posted this on the Classified, but I would try here also. I bought a 2004 IAC 1897 off Gun Broker, used. It sat in my safe for well over a year, untill our club decided to try Wild Bunch. The first time I shot this gun at a match, on the 3rd shot, the forearm went flying forward. It had come loose from the cocking mechanism. Evidently the wood had not been inletted enough to allow the Forend Tube Assembly Cap to fully thread onto the Action Slide. The previous owner had tried to tighten the threads and cross threaded the parts. Yeah, now we know why it had been sold. I found a new Forend Tube Assembly Cap at Brownells, but have not been able to locate a new Action Slide. Does anyone know where I can purchase these IAC Parts? Plus, the wrench that loosens and tightens these. I bought a wrench from Midway and Brownessl, but they fit the Winchester and not the IAC. I have sent four emails to the gun smith on the IAC Website (Pisco Gun Smith), but they have yet to respond. Thanks for your assistance. Frontier Lone Rider
Dirty Chris Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 BTT I know someone knows It seems they changed their contact for getting parts.... I needed an ejector spring a while back and I called the number on the IAC site and the guy sent me a few no charge. But I don't believe it was Pisco Gunsmithing, it was someone from IAC. Have you tried calling? Email isn't always 100% reliable nor do some people check it as regularly as they should.
Captain Woodrow Cahill, SASS # 54363 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 +1 on giving them a call. Marty is the guy you want to talk to. I had a problem with my '87, and he not only took the time to explain what needed done he also sent me the part for free.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 +1 on giving them a call. Marty is the guy you want to talk to. I had a problem with my '87, and he not only took the time to explain what needed done he also sent me the part for free. I called Coyote Cap a while back looking for an action hook screw for a IAC 97. He gave me the number for Marty but I have since lost it. Anyway, Marty was a big help and he send me the screw for nothing.
Marauder SASS #13056 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 IAC/Norinco 97 Parts New telephone number for Norinco or IAC parts. ( as of 12/2010) 541-396-5558. http://www.piscogunsmithing.com/
Awful Close Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Are you sure that the stop ring on the mag tube didn't break loose (common problem on the Chinese guns)?
Frontier Lone Rider Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 I had a friend ,who works on firearms, tear it down and tell me what I needed. He had re-assembled the gun and it seemed solid, but when he fired actual shells, it flew apart again. So, I need to replace the two parts that thread together. The IAC gun smith has been no help to date. They responded that this was such a complicated repair that I would have to ship them the shotgun. I don't think so!!! All I need is the Action Slide and I can fix it myself. I have modified the wrench for the Winchester 97 to fit the IAC 97. Lone Rider
Frontier Lone Rider Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 I have tried most of the suggested vendors, but still have had no luck. The IAC folks have just given me a run-around. They have not been of any assistance to date. The gun may just become another parts gun and I will start looking for a useable Winchester 97. LR
Frontier Lone Rider Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 A pard may have the parts I need. He is sending them for me to try. Now I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks. Anytime I have had a question or need in SASS, a pard has always stepped-up with help. Lone Rider
Frontier Lone Rider Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Numrich seems to have parts for every shotgun except the IAC 97. They list parts for the TTN Shotgun and someone said some of these parts would fit the IAC 97. But, they did not say the Action Slide or Action Bar would fit? They do seem to have every part that might be needed for a Winchester 97. Lone Rider
Frontier Lone Rider Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 OK, so I found an Action Slide. But, when I install the slide, the hammer is in the back position and the trigger does not work? Evidently it is not going far enough forward to be in battery. What am I doing wrong? Lone Rider
Frontier Lone Rider Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 OK, so I found an Action Slide. But, when I install the slide, the hammer is in the back position and the trigger does not work? Evidently it is not going far enough forward to be in battery. What am I doing wrong? Lone Rider A pard suggested that I might have the Slide locked into the Bolt? Is there a position evertything should be in before trying to install the new Slide?
Marauder SASS #13056 Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Before you put in the slide, the bolt should be forward in battery and the hammer down. Then you insert the slide and keep pushing until the slide cocks the action. Then you know the slide is properly engaging the action slide hook that moves the bolt. Hope this helps. http://marauder.homestead.com/shotgun.html
Frontier Lone Rider Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Thanks Marauder, I was hoping someone could tell me the secret. I can't wait until I get home to give this a try. Thanks Again. Lone Rider
