Colorado Coffinmaker Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I've been shooting Gunfighter for a number of years (A real Looooong time) and every now and then I see a match where the participants are listed as "Master Gunfighter. Maybe I don't get out enough .......... but "Master Gunfighter" is a term I'm not really familiar with. At least not here in Western Pennsyltuckey. So .......... Where does the term or "category" of "Master Gunfighter" come from. I'm also wondering if I are one??? Thoughts ?? Coffinmaker
Yul Catchum Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 It was a movie with the guy from Billy Jack and Ron what'shisname from superfly. Used make-believe colts and samurai swords. So I suppose anybody shows up witha gussied up colt and a sword..... Sorry, I have no idea but this'll give you a bump to top.
The Shoer 27979 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I would like to know too, I have been shooting gunfighter for about 5 years
Wallaby Jack, SASS #44062 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I may well be off your topic here, but .... .... at our BIG events we run a "Top Gun Shootoff" where the xx best are pitted against each other as an "exhibition" event (either man v man elimination, or simply one after the other) for the title of "Master Gunfighter". This event has no bearing on the actual results of the match, but is used as a way that all can see the best shooters in action. There is usually a seperate award for it too. Shooting style has nothing to do with the title.
Oklahomabound Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 ..don't know fer sure, but sounds like something from the quick draw folks.
Manatee Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 In our neck of the woods, the MG category represents an "open" category: Any gun, any style. Typically, entries are the top local shooters in their respective disciplines.
Col. Nathan C. Riddles, SASS # 7462 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 At our club annual we finish off the match with a master gunfighter contest. A man on man walk down with the RO or TO inbetween & slightlybehind them walking toward a pair of knock down targets. At his discretion the TO taps both shooters on the shoulder. At that time both shooters draw and fire at their target. The first to get his target down wins that round and continues to compete until he/she is eliminated. Last one standing is the Master Gunfighter for the year.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Well ......... Darn. Has nothing to do with being/shooting/competing as a "Gunfighter." And ......... It's a bit different everywhere you go. Neat. Let's let the thread die or SASS'll write a rule book for it. Coffinmaker
