Has anyone here added a Tang to the H&R Buffalo Classic? If so... I would appriciate seeing a photo of it. I'm considering fabricating one and would like to see any other job before I start.

Thanks

Marlin and H&R used to have a forum. I looked on their website, but didn't see it. Maybe you can find it or the single shot forum with a search. I know there were pictures of welded tangs and other methods of attaching tang sights on the old H&R site. The nicest jobs were the ones that inletted a drilled and tapped plate into the wood where the tang would be and screwing the tang sight to that.

Send me your email and I'll send you pictures of mine.

About 10 years ago I had a gunsmith weld a tang on mine because I could never keep one zeroed with that ball wrist. I shot it several years with a long range soul sight but I noticed that the threads on the sight were getting banged up, with kicker in. I took the kicker out ( modified part from Brownells) and it helped solve that problem but added time to the routine.

It did work great though.

I am assuming you are doing this to add a sight of some kind such as a Marbles or LR type. You may also do this by inserting brass treaded inserts into the stock. These are used and sold in the furniture business. I have some 1/4 x20 left from such a project if you want to go this way. Look up the wood workers supply site and you will find them and the info there.

Google Lee Shavers, he did mine and it came out great. He also has a great sight available. He mounts a false tang into the buttstock.

Snakebite - it is a fairly straight forward process. I used brass threaded inserts into the stock to accept the screws holding the site. drill the holes in the stock to accept the threaded inserts. I cut the head off a screw, put a lock nut on it and then the insert. Chuck the setup into a drill press and use it to "hand" turn the insert into the wood (keeps them straight).

Be not afraid. The worst that can happen is you screw it up and have to dispose of the rifle. Just ship it to me and I can do that for you.

That's exactly how Pedersoli does it on their long range Trapdoor model. Shot mine for 5 years and still maintains zero.

I did it in a bit cruder fashion, but the end result has worked out quite well. I had a T/C style sight in the parts box, so I carefully fitted a hardwood riser to the wrist, spend a bit of time making sure it was perfectly level, then screwed & glued it to the wrist and mounted the sight on top.
