I finally went to see the True Grit remake.

I'm curious where it was filmed.

Does anyone know what part of the country is that?

I, too, liked it much better than I expected. Just don't think about the Duke, and enjoy the show, perhaps pretending it is a new story. I also liked Kim Darby a little better. Maybe not the greatest actress, but her determination was believable. Of course, the new filming and the great sounds were improved, and all in all it was a very enjoyable movie. Many people like the first ending better, as they are different. I liked both endings. It is certainly worth seeing.

Much of the exterior scenery came from northern New Mexico. The trading post was a new built cabin on a ranch near Las Vegas NM.

Here's a good article about it:

Good luck, GJ

The river crossing scene was filmed in Burnet Co. ooutside of Lampassas at a big ranch there. Have family members that live up there and they know the ranch owners. They said the film crew feed them very well every morning and were very friendly
