Is it safe to shoot hollow points in a rifle with a magazine tube?

I always did in my Ruger Deerstalker and my Marlin 1894 with no ill effects. Pointy bullets would be the bad thing in a tubular magazine.

The only bad thing about hollow points is that the bullets usually have a semi-wadcutter profile, which can and does quite often hender them feeding properly.

Wad cutter profile bullets have a rather square step on them just above the crimping groove, and this step can and does most often cause them not to feed reliably. Round nose bullets, (Either hollow points or solids), and /or truncated cone profile bullets do not have that step just above the crimp groove and therefore feed very reliably.

SO, just a word of caution, be careful in the style bullets you select, so that feeding won't be a problem.

Montado if you are looking for a 45 caliber hunting bullet the Hornady 300 grain XTP worked well in a Rossi 92 I had long ago, as well as the Blackhawk.
