Busy day at Tucson gun Show today....

Went to the gun show south of town today at the County Fairgrounds. It was packed! Stood in line for about twenty minutes to get in while people came out with hand trucks, wagons, and anything else big enough to carry large loads. Ammo, components, and mag's mainly. It is the first show here since the senseless tragedy last Saturday.

TV news crews were in abundance and talking to folks mostly in leather or tactical clothing, as usual. Security moved the cameras back to a respectable distance several times. It was a well mannered crowd as it usually is at the gun shows around here. Prices were pretty normal for the times I believe. They filmed me while I was in line but wouldn't talk to me, I guess I looked too normal. While watching the ABC news later today I saw footage of the guy next to me in line who was wearing what might be called "Biker" attire, but I was nowhere to be seen.

On the way home a local radio station was talking about the shootings and mentioned the gun show was going on "Not too far from the scene of the tragedy". Anybody from Tucson knows the Fairgrounds are at least 30-35 miles, or a 45-60 minute drive depending on traffic, away from where it all happened. It's no wonder nobody gets the story right with all the mis-reporting.

Many Cowboy guns were there too but nothing I needed or wanted. A nice days' diversion anyway.

Now, hold on there Pard -- I've seen you comin' out of the bunkhouse at 5:00 a.m. in the morning, in your flannel 'jammies and "normal" is not the word that came to my mind.

A. West--I must concur-- "normal" isn't the word I would use either--BUT can't use the word that comes to mind on the wire!

I would have enjoyed the show, but other than entertainment value, I didn't have any pressing needs. Good point about the location of the shooting & gunshow. Why let the truth get in the way of the story?

Go West, was there any representation of SASS or CAS at the gunshow? My Cuzzin was there and didn't see any.

Had our show last weekend and kinda fizzled out, the big one is in June.

It's started - the antis are talking up a storm - on Saturday Night Live last night there was a very biased editorial by Seth Meyers against the second amendment - on Face the Nation this morning there was more crud - better put the wagons in a circle boys and girls cause they're coming after our guns again and using the Tucson shooting as a catalyst. There's a gunshow in Phoenix next week and I expect more of the same coverage.

All ya have to do is everybody dress up like the Lone Ranger,Tonto,The Cisco Kid and Pauncho and Bill Pickett then circle the cameras, all good guys of all colors, pat each other on the back ,shake hands, then you have some by standers(friends) come up an cheer and holler thank you, then make a donation to a good cuase..Make the news, don't let them make it.Stand up and Stand out!

GCR,

Unfortunately, there's a lot of folks out there that don't know who those characters are.

I'd add Sky King to the list. He rode a Beechcraft but he wore a cowboy hat. ;)

Yes it is 30-35 miles and maybe as much as an hour away but is in the same time zone so that qualifies as close for the talking heads from NYC an WDC

My boss at the gun shop/range I work at part time said there's no Glock 19's to be found at any distributors anywhere. Are people afraid the 19 is gonna be banned??? I don't get it. Panic is setting in on us gunners again just like when Obama took office. Everyone just calm down, chill out, watch a cowboy movie and don't buy anything unless ya REALLY want it. All this is gonna lead to higher prices. Remember the ammo and primer shortage???:FlagAm:

It is amazing how offten the media gets their facts wrong.

Isn't it funny that the most accurate person on the news media is the weather man.

Pretty sure it was a Cessna 310.

I loved that aircraft, even after I started noticing Penny. ;^)'

Ho Maclin, Long time we no get drunk together!

Uno, the 310 was later in the series. Believe he started out in a Beech 18(?)

Sky King started with a Cessna T-50 (bamboo bomber) provided by famed pilot Paul Mantz (the guy that flew through the coke billboard in Mad Mad Mad world). The T-50 was having some issues as she aged (wooden construction) and they switched a Cessna 310 (provided by Cessna at no charge)

I agree. People who have absolutely no use or need for 32 round mags for Glocks (not really sure who actually needs one of these, but that is beside the point) are buying them up like crazy. It is the same "I don't really need it, but i might not be able to buy one soon" mentality that swept the nation in 08-09. But hey, maybe there will be some great bargains out there when things quiet down and "buyer's remorse" and spousal indignation sets in. :D

It's a buy High now and later sell Low, but thats what a gun show is for eh.

Thanks DB. The ol' Bamboo Bomber. AKA: Bugsmasher, along with the Beech-18.

I gotta admit, I don't remember Sky King's T-50 at all. But that C-310..... Oh, Baby!

Thanks, DB. At least I was sorta close. I liked the look of it better than the 310.........Buck

It had way more "style points"!

Does anyone know the FAA identification, i.e."N" number, of either of these aircraft?

The Cessna 310B (N5348A), was destroyed in a crash in 1962 killing the owner

The Cessna T-50 was owned by famed movie pilot Paul Manz, I believe the tail number was NC67832.

Maybe Diane sawyer or katie couric have a more fair and honest balance for you....Or what ever the big corporations have told them to say....Sacramento news must be pretty good these days...what do they say about the booming economy in good old kalifornia....why didn't they investigate the pima cnty sheriff response as to why there were no deputys to protect Gabby...after the threats and vandalism....Diane Sawyer says" Tax gas higher and force the people to use less"...enjoy your bike ride to work...Tuco..ps. I lived in sunny valle ,ca .Awhile. Won't be back!
