Coyote Cap called me last night

I ordered a Coyote Cap "1 of 200" Limited Edition 93/97 exactly one year ago. I know they aren't legal for State and above. I wanted one because it's Coyote Cap's work, and the Limited Edition thing, etc.

I'd pretty much forgotten about it when the phone rang last night. It was Coyote himself, telling me the shotgun was ready. A very nice gentleman, I was on the phone with him for almost an hour. He apologized for the delay. He has had some medical problems.

To make up for the delay, he said he put a lot of extra work into this particular gun. Everything is jeweled and damascened. I don't really know what damascened is, as I understand it, it is some sort of cosmetic embellishment done to metal. Also, the wood is supposed to be nicer than average.

Anyway, glad it's finally ready. Can't wait to get it.

You will love it. It is the best shotgun never approved by SASS.

Well I hope that you will post some pics of it for all to see when you get it. I am not familier with this particular shotgun.

I have been wanting to send off my 87 but have a hard time figuring out just who to make contact with and finding out lead times on such a job.

Doc, You will have a nice shotgun to shoot. Cap is a nice guy but is not liked by a lot of shooters and that is partly Cap's falut for trying to please everyone at once. His daughter Kitty and son Drifter who worked with him in the past will tell you the same thing. He means well but he will tell the first 10 customers that he will have their guns finished in a month but will also tell the 850th guy the same thing. That is what has always gotten him into trouble. He also goes to shoots to promote his business not realizing the guns are stacking up. I think from many conversations with him myself that his heart is in the right place but he does not understand business. His daughter went out of her way to try and help me when my 87 was months behind. Cap did the same work on my gun as what is done to yours. It is like the old jeweling method,at least that is what it looks like to me. He even had Drifter his son do a barb wire laser cut to my front pieces of wood. I had the chance to shoot with Drifter about a year later and had the rear stock done also. They are a nice family. The ones who don't care for Cap have posted more than once on this forum and I don't think they will ever change thier minds. I myself try to see that good in every one and understand where they are coming from. In my book Cap is alright if you don't mind the wait as he is not a drive thru type of gunsmith. His family are some of the best you will ever meet. I feel that if you want something that is nice then be prepared to wait. They have gun makers who have a waiting list that is years long. My 87 has not failed me in any way since I received it. Enjoy your new gun.

I like Cap and his work, but his wait time is getting excessive.

I shipped my CC '97 to him October 15th 2009 to get chromed and have the trigger worked on. I prepaid the work and he promised 6 to 8 week turn around.

That shotgun came back to me December 10th, 2010.

14 months later.

FYI: The shotgun looks fantastic and runs perfectly.

I have two Coyote Cap specials, an '87 and a 93/97. I was one of the first to order a 93/97 when it was first shown at the SASS convention. At that time everyone oohed and aahed and basically said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It took a while to get it but when it finally arrived (#9 BTW), I was more than happy. However that powers that be in SASS decided it was not legal for higher level events. This is not the place for the reasons behind that decision. Their game, their rules. Suffice it to say I've used it in local events and am very satisfied.

Yes, there was a long wait. But it was worth it.

They are not SASS legal at any match.... although, some clubs allow them.

Hi,

Coyote Cap website is confusing re. 93/97. Website says, help me if I am misreading, that the 93/97 is more difficult to load over the top because the cutout allows shell contact w. the ejector (as I recall).

I thought the only advantage of the gun was faster access to the chamber over the top.

Can anyone explain? I am puzzled.

Thanks,

T.

TB, I have 2 93/97s and about a dozen original and Chinese 97s.

I load over the top and I can not tell one whit of difference in the two models. The cut-out is only a perceived advantage, not an actual one.
