Horace Smead
Are there any clues or information that can help me determine the age of a Stetson I've got. Its a western style, boss of the plains sort of look to it, I'm guessing from the 1940s or earlier, but need help. Thanks.
Adirondack Jack, SASS #53440
I'm no expert, but over time the liner designs have changed. Probably that'd be yer best clue.
Max Montana, SASS #23907
I'll help keep this near the top so that maybe someone with knowledge will help. That being said, seems I recall it had something to do with counting the sweat rings!

Horace Smead
I tried taking a picture but it doesn't come out to look like anything. The markings are fading a bit, though they are readable. On one side of the sweat band it reads John B. Stetson / Company / 3X Beaver, then on the other side it reads The Hitching Post / Dothan, ALA. No box. I found this at a thrift store a few years back and gave it to my daughter to wear for play, it was only $2 so I figured if she destroyed it I wouldn't be out much. She ended up taking really good care of it and have since noticed the maker and dealer markings inside it so it has been hanging around on a hook ever since. I'll try to get pictures of it up here shortly. Thanks.
Badlands Bob #61228
Might be easier to research "The Hitching Post" and find out when they were in business. That might narrow your search.
