How to Dress...

Recommended Posts

Just curious... anyone here ever don your cowboy outfits when goin' out in public...? ;)

How 'bout when going to a western movie...? Not many these days, but there've been a few over the past years. My son, his buddy, and I went directly from a KRR match to 3:10 to Yuma when it was fresh in the theaters - due more to convenience than makin' a statement (long trip home to change!). Anyway, I was most pleasantly surprised by the smiles, nods, a few questions and generally friendly reaction from folks! ;)

Now... off to see True Grit again tomorrow... :FlagAm:

Recently we dressed up for True Grit, the club is The Cowboys. It was fun. But all in all I have always been a cowboy boot jean kinda gal. Growing up with livestock you live that way. I raised and trained horse for many years in AZ and lived up around Black Canyon City, then Mayer, and finally Wickenberg AZ. It was a second job that I really loved. And I wore boots, spurs, jeans tee top and a hat, course to compete I had to wear a long sleeve shirt & Chaps. Or Arab Side saddle did put me in costumes.... I went every place looking that way, except my day job of course and once in a while a business outting.

I would love to see the whole country get western.. lol.

Well, I am so relieved, Hardpan.

When I first read the headliner, I thought you might be going out in a cute little basic black dress with a bright red sash and patent leather shoes and purse.

Howdy Hardpan,

I haven't dressed for any events other than shooting :FlagAm:, Halloween at work once :FlagAm: , and a cowboy's funeral. :FlagAm:

I think it would be fun to dress up more. It seems that I have a conversation with someone at lunch at the Golf Course after every match. Folks always seem surprised and facinated by what we do. For some reason, the fact that I shoot a SG is awe inspiring to some. Funny thing is that it is my favorite gun. Can't hardly miss (unless it's a "bird" ) with a SG.

I don't think I've converted anyone into a shooter yet; but, I keep trying.

Regards,

Allie Mo

PS More power to ya if you dress cowboy more than I do! :FlagAm:

I was at a local match dressed not just as a cowboy, but as a cowboy in disguise when I heard that one of the lady shooters was low on fuel and needed a hand. Staying in character I rode over to the nearest fillin' station all duded up with my canvas pants tucked into the boots, suspenders, checkered shirt, vest, bandanna, hat and a big, obviously fake beard over half my face. The cashier inside sent two guys out to check me out -- they said she was afraid I was there to rob her!! In the end we all had a good laugh.

When I go to matches I wear my cowboy duds to the range and back home, usually. Though I find I get less stares if I don't tuck the pants into the boots in public!

I dress western, sometimes 19c, for just about everything: going out day or night, shopping, church ----even when I teach school...but can't when I teach swim lessons

When dressin nicer than normal, I tend to wear my white banded collar shirt, cowboy vest and frock coat. I wear my frock coat a lot actualy. I wear cowboy hats most of the time and have since high school. Wear boots most of the time too. 'bout the only cowboy item I don't wear out for regular occaisions are my high wasted pants.

At my oldest daughter's band concert one of her friends told her that I looked like Wyatt Earp. Her comment was that I dress like that pretty much all the time.

I dress Cowboy every day. Unless I'm working, I always wear a hat, vest, long sleeve button shirt, gun and gunbelt. (Arizona, OPEN carry) :FlagAm: The only "modern" part of my attire are my blue jeans, belt, (with Civil War Officer's buckle) and contemporary cowboy boots. I get complemented on my choices almost daily.

Well, see your thread about true grit, we do it in Oregon!! Going to a Casino for New Years Party dressed in our Finery!! It does get the looks but most people think its very nice (unless you're 20 in which case Mom and Dad have absolutley gone over the edge).

We frequently stop at a Walmart on the way home from the shoots. Never had anyone even question why we looked the way we do.

I saw someone dressed as an Indian at our Walmart once. Had a loincloth and nothing else. Too bad it was a loony escaped from the hospital. Literally.

Wal shux... you'd have been the finest dressed folk there - even if right off the range after roundup! :D

I wore my cowboy outfit to the viewing of True Grit. It was an early showing so not many people there but when the movie was over, got a lot of stares as we were leaving the theatre.

I have dressed up (frock coat and top hat) and gone down to Old Town San Diego on several occasions. Mostly to do photos in the area but once for dinner with friends who also dressed up Victorian style. Had a nice dinner and then took a stroll, could not believe the number of tourists that wanted to have their picture taken with us. Loads of fun. Going to have to do that again.

Cordially yours, Mild Will

For casual wear I usually wear jeans and T shirt, sometimes cowboy hat and boots. It depends on the weather. Not so much when going out. We decided to wear our best period correct western attire last night when we went out for New Years Eve. I found out it can be dangerous to be the only cowboy in the place. My wife and i were at a New Years eve function. I had noticed this attractive younger woman there. She seemed to be movinmg closer to out table. Finally I noticed she was standing about 10 ft behind me. A few minutes later I felt something on my shoulder. She had walked up behind me, and put her arm around my shoulders. She leaned in and exhaled into my ear and whispers; "I really like your hat". I was sitting holding hands with my wife when this happened. I'm glad I have a trusting and understanding wife or that could have gotten ugly. I politly said thank you and turned my attention back to my wife. I guess the ladies always love cowboys.
