Your Custom Colt

In a strictly for fun thread, lets assume you had money and plenty to spare. So, you take trip to Hartford and order yourself a highly customized SAA from the custom shop.

This is fantasy wishful thinking. No need to be practical.

What would you get?

Oddly enough, in some ways, I'd get something rather mundane. I'd want a 7-1/2 .45 that except for the incorrect serial number and the fact that it looks brand new, would cause even an expert to think it was a genuine army surplus gun from the 1880's.

I would get a consecutive # pair in 4.5", beautiful blue and case hardened in .45 Colt caliber.

Ain't sure about the grips. I would ponder that alittle more.

My Colt would be nickle plated, 1860 U.S. officer's side arm with original holster and complete provenance including original Colt receipt. It saw action in the War Between the States. Yes, I do know where such a gun exists. It's very happy where it is. I'll visit it again one day.

two 5.5 .45s, with sambar stag grips, "C+" engraved in an Agee-like cattle brand pattern, CHROME plated (more durable than nickel), with my alias down the backstraps and special serial numbers, "SGT. Q. 1" and "SGT. Q. 2". Sound gaudy enough?

Just curious, Deuce. Why not get them in .38 Special? Or do you actually shoot .357 Mags?

Regards, TJH

Not being a Colt guy, I was not sure if they actually make them specifically in .38spec. My good pard Max Montana shoots a pair of 2nd. Gens. in .357 with 7.5" barrels and I have always kinda lusted after them. That's an itch that I will probably never scratch.

Cased consecutively numbered 4-3/4", .44 Spl., cross-pin frame, Blue/CH, Nimschke-style D engraving, Fleur-de-lis pattern checkered real ivory one-piece grips, trigger pulls at 3-1/2 lbs., very smooth and light action, regulated to shoot dead on at 25 yds. -- GIT

Consecutive pair, BP frame, blued (no casehardening) with real ivory grips (I'd prefer fossilized ivory -- I think it looks more interesting, but I want the nice clean, no-bark, part of the ivory). The only engraving or adornment would be my inititials scrimshawed together on the grips, and the sort of braid that appeared on the sleeves of Captain and Lieutenant uniforms in the 1860s and 70s, done in silver near the ends of the 5 1/2 inch barrels.

This goes into a simple, tooled black double gun righ, with an 1881 silver dollar used as a concho on each holster.

I think this whole rig could be done for about $5,000, so it's not impossible (unlikely, but not impossible).

Years ago I had an Uberti clone, 5 1/2" barrel in 45LC that had a brass trigger guard and back strap, silver plated cylinder, and the rest was blue. It was also fully engraved. Wish I still had it, but if I could get anything in a colt and $ was no object, I think I'd like a fancy Colt similar to the clone I miss so much.

Howdy, I did just that, I bought a pair of 5 1/2 blued Colts in 45lc, then I sent them down to Howard Barnett who engraved them with the pattern from John Wayne movie THE SHOOTIST, them ordered two sets of ivory grips which were fitted to the backstrap. They shoot wonderfully and look good

Merry Christmas to all

I got a pair of consecutive #'s 7.5" B/CCH in 357 and another in 45 4.5" B/CCH. I'm engraving them on the pay- as- you- get- rathole- money plan.

All I want for Christmas is ivory grips, but dang if I can figger out what I want on them. Nutmeg.com is getting worn out lookin' plus, I need some more rathole money. ;)

My pard, Jalapeno Harry's, dad lost a short-barrel 32-20 in the White Mtns while working for the Hash Knife outfit in the '20s--fell outta his chaps pocket. I'd like to find that pistol and give it back to Harry. Best of the Season to you and yours. mm

Pair of consecutive, 4" barrel, .44 Spl, Full engraving (Nimschke), Mammoth Ivory grips, Silver plated with wide front and rear sights. Then I'd have Peacemaker Specialists do the action work.

I actually lived my dream, even though it took 18 months to get them

I ordered a consecutive pair of 4-3/4" nickel .32-20s with back sight widened to .125", beveled cylinder and ejector rod housing and, one piece real ivory grips. They were factory sighted in point of aim at 15 yards with a 115 grain bullet at 800 fps.

Since you stated "a highly customized SAA from the custom shop", that means only one pistol.

I would order a .357, blued/CCH SAA with 5 1/2" barrel, Level C Nimschke engraved with silver inlay.

I would then have a set of one-piece elephant ivory grips scrimshawed with my 15 year-old daughters name on one side and her graduation date on the other.

She says that is what she wants for a graduation present.

I hope not to get flamed for this, but if i had a unlimited budget i would do a few things to update the design a little bit.

Firstly i would keep the firing pin on the hammer, like the looks of it, but i would add a Smith and Wesson style rebounding hammer with hammer block(just like my K frame m15.). Add to that the best action job money can buy and having the chambers polished to make make ejection easier. I would have a custom front sight made that has different markers at different heights to accomadate different loads. I would Then add a set of either Exotic wood or Some form of rare animal bone grips. Then finish it with some tastefull yet not over the top engraving.

In the case that i got one in 38-40 i would have a second cylinder made up in 10mm. Also would like to have the above in 41magnum if the frame and cylinder can take it.

Hello the camp! those that know me know I'm not a party poop. That said, if I had the altogether to do as I wish, I'd have a new 30mpg truck (to get to more matches) and a pair of Ruger NMV's with 3 1/2" bbls--just like I just bought. Still working on the truck. Wadda ya thimk? http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd376/...aismike/Rugers/ mm

Maybe this is unimaginative, but I just wish the pair of unturned Colts in my safe were as smooth as the one next to them that has an action job by Bob James. Then I wouldn't be able to resist turning, shooting and using them on a continual basis.

I drive a Ford Escape Hybrid that gets 30+ mpg. Seems to me that they should be able to use the same drive train on the Ranger p/u. I've seen 3 Ranger p/us on the road with the Hybrid emblem on them. Don't know if it's something they are testing or just folks adding the emblem. I think a p/u that gets 30+ mpg would sell. BTW, they also make the Escape Hybrid in 4wd. Why not put a p/u body on it?

If money were no object, my fantasy "Colt" would have four hooves and at least 600 acres to roam on!

on the other thread-jacking topic of mpg my Honda Insight makes the same hp & torque as a Ranger and gets 45mpg.

hybrid pickup = good idea
