I was watchin the world championship of poker the other night and the guy that won it all had 2 pair. Aces and 8's. How wierd is that?

Did someone shoot him in the back of the head ?

Now that had happened, . . . .

. . . . . . then it would really would have been a strange coincidence . . :)

Not very weird at all. I think it goes like this: there are 123,552 five card hands that make are "two pair" of those 123,552 hands 792 are aces and eights. 792 out of 133,784,560 or something 1 in 168920. Now how many hours do you spend watching WCP? You have got to see a lot of hands. Sooner or later you will see something remarkable.

I have probably made a mistake somewhere in my arithmetic and will probably spend the rest of the day "getting it right". :)B):P

Thing is, I don't usually watch it. I was flippin channels and when I came across it they were on the last hand of the championship, so I watched to see how it turned out. I think I would wonder about my luck for the next few days if I won on that hand.

Ok, recalculationg ;) :

133+ million million ways to deal 5 cards (no jokers) which makes 2598960 unique 5 card poker hands. 123,552 of those hands are two pair. 1584 of those are aces and eights or about one in 1640. Many of those 2.5 million hands are not interesting at all - not even a pair, etc. I would expect to see aces and eights on a tv show at least one in a thousand hands.
