That Masked Man
Okay, I'll assume there are no pickups and SUVs are not represented because we're talking "cars". I can't agree with the Studebaker bias. Sure the Avanti was ahead of its time and arguably Loewy's best effort....but so few are in existence, I'd have to call it pretty insignificant in the overall history of the automobile...so I would suggest it should be displaced by maybe... Porsche 911 (or heck, James Dean's Porsche 550 Spyder) Chevy Corvette (pick your favorite year) 1964 Pontiac GTO Mercedes-Benz' 300SL gull-wing-door sports car Jaguar E-Type, or D-type, or... Any Aston-Martin Datsun 240Z Dodge Viper '57 Chevy Bel-Air Chrysler K-car ( !! ) How about something with a rotary/wankel engine? I could go on, but why bother? My "affordable" favorite is the 1993 Mazda RX-7 in twin-sequential-turbo flavor. It brought big-league technology from the realm of $200,000 Porsches (the awesome 959) to the $40k range, made 200bhp/litre and the best looking modern car, still copied by today's Corvette. Mine's a '94....although that Porsche Cayman S has my eye a-wanderin' - but don't tell my Mazdas I said that!!
