Madd Mike #8595
what I lerned to day about wild bunch DURING THE SASS convention 1> it is ment to be A notch higher than what CowboyActonShotting has become today (target distance and skill set) and this was done on purpose ( besides distance, no comstock shotgun fer example) 2> the ultimate goal is for the WildBunch to be as seperate within SASS as SASS mounted shooting is now SASS-CAS SASS-Mounted SASS-Wild Bunch ................................Dang nabbit iffen that dont make a lotta cents However SASS CAS was / is .......................................required in the begining, to introduce what will bee ....................................when the dream comes true Dang nabbit, iffen that dont make a lotta centts too hence, introduce it in CAS, due to high shooter numbers, then help it grow now it is time to introduce a seperate Wild Bunch webb site, as recently done I went to three different venues today, and tolt>Wild Bunch is NOT CAS i cant explain 6 hours of class in this posting, and do it justice but they just may be on 2 something just try to understand and be open minded Please dont repond to this on the wire, until you hear (email, call or talk) WITH others at the convention TODAY and have time to think outside of the triangle for a spell No kidding, while I am typing this, I am watching encore westerns westerns channel on the boob tube (yikes can I sill say that-sure I am just showing my age, and how things change, moderators please strick this clause before you strike the post?) Wolf Bane just came on and said that Wild Bunch was truely the transistion between Cowboys and "way-way modern stuff" for a lack of a better term and in my opinion, SASS is now offering that wonderful opertunity I will be honest I have never been a slide gun person but these here 5 fellers developing Wild Bunch, I personally talked with 3 of em on the side,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,one on one today after the venues This is worth looking into, and sharing with others dang it, this is fun stuff please keep an open mind Wild Bunch is not SASS Wild Bunch is a nother SASS dream to shoot moore or less, your personal choice in sassmaddmike@yahoo.com

Jack Houston # 35508
Yep, WB has been very popular, I've gotten as many orders for WB leather as CAS leather!! Personally, I'm not going to buy another rifle and shotgun just to shoot WB 2/3 times a year as a Side Match, just like I don't have a Derringer, Pocket pistol or a Long Range rifle! Goody, SASS #26190
Thanks for the post, MM. I brought up something along these lines at the TG meeting at the recent Regional that I attended. Some wanted to talk about how to do this and that at WB matches, I pointed out that we were SASS TG's, and that we had no place in that discussion per se. We also talked of the need for there to be a whole different RO training. Someone like me, who has 10-12 years of CAS has no idea what is required in WB.It is a totally different game, with differing rules for weapons, for target engagement, for the handling of the firearms on the firing line and the loading/unloading table. We can't assume that because someone is proficient in administering a CAS match, or in RO'ing CAS stages, that they will be able to properly do the same in WB. Similarly, the spotters and shooters must know and understand the differences as well for there to be a well run, safe match. I see a definite need for seperate RO 1 and 2 training. Slowhand Bob, 24229
I know this is not the direction we want to take this in but, could this statement be elaborated on a bit? Madd Mike #8595
We TG's are supossed to educate our SASS clubs as to the desired seperation that ...............is overall plan in the long run same clubs, same shooters in some cases same clubs, different shooters in some cases shoot cas one day wb a nother day, so as not to confuse the rules and different timer operator requirements Yes the rules are much different than CAS in many ways Yes the RO book will be different too that stuff aint all finialized yet, but is well into the development stage but Please utalize the Wild Bunch web page everying is / or will be down loadable there A notch up, means just that targets a tadd bit farther more knock downs no comstock makeup shots for shotgun enforced PF and bullets minimums nothing major they just want to bring a tad bit more shooting skills back It will be a great new thing like I said I cant put 6 hrs of Wild Bunch talking and two seperate seminars down in print that well I gotta, suck up my coffen and hit the road right now, and go back fer more
Madd Mike #8595
cliff notes about some of the major differences,,,,,,,see below Wild Bunch is NOT Cowboy Action Shooting with a 1911 Major rule differences between Bunch and Cowboy Action Shooting in the treatment of long • In Wild Bunch you may load the Shotgun at the Loading table • There is no penalty for overloading the shotgun at the loading table • In Wild Bunch there is no penalty for overloading the rifle at the loading table • In Wild Bunch there is no penalty for an emplty case/hull in the OPEN long gun Major rule differences between Wild Bunch and Cowboy Action Shooting in the treatment of hand guns • In Wild Bunch the already cleared pistol in NOT removed from the holster at the unloading table • In Wild Bunch you man NOT re-holster the pistol at the completion of a shooting string (SDQ) It must be placed on a provided prop. If the course of fire ends with the pistol it must be shown clear and made safe then re-holstered. • In Wild Bunch the shooter must keep their trigger finger outside the trigger guard when moving or reloading the pistol Major rule differences between Wild Bunch and Cowboy Action Shooting in Range Operations • In Wild Bunch you may NOT “hand off” any malfunctioning firearm. (MSV) it must be staged on a provided prop with the muzzle in a safe direction. • In Wild Bunch the shooter is the only person who may physically clear a malfunctioning firearm during the course of fire. Once it leaves the shooter’s hands it may not be used again during the course of fire. • In Wild Bunch once the shooter stages their firearms on the firing line, no other person shall touch them. The shooter shall be the only person to move their firearms from the firing line to the unloading table. I hope this helps a tadd bit Looks like Nevada State Chamionship for Wild Bunch will be 5th weekend in may we got a lotta planning to do.... Anvil Al #59168
Thanks MM. This is really good news for alot of us. You know. Those of us that just did not want to see WB make it's way into a Cowboy main match, as some have tryed or started doing. Nice to hear the SASS big wigs is NOT wanting that either.
