Pay Dirt Norvelle #90056
I also do Civil War reenacting and our breakfast coffee is made by dumping a bunch of grounds with some water in a coffee pot and boiling it over a wood fire. Comes out ok, but a mite strong some times.
Rye Miles #13621
You can order Arbuckle coffee at http://www.arbucklecoffee.com/ Badger's right. Arbuckles is one of the oldest coffee names in the USA. It was enjoyed by many cowboys on the trail. Good stuff!

Grouchy Greg, SASS#71981
Arbuckles is kinda pricey at $16.95 a pound plus shipping, but it's worth it. I got some and made my first pot of cowboy coffee at the chili cookout we had after our last club shoot of the year last Sunday. It turned out great and everybody liked it. Good stuff! Git some! Apache, While Arbuckles is a genuine cowboy product, Caribou Coffee is the best I've found and it's made in your neck of the woods! BSD
Subdeacon Joe
You can look at it a few ways. As a method or as a specific brand, specifically Arbuckles. If you look at the brand, you find one of the first convenience foods. Arbuckles Store added the eggshells and a sugar glaze to the beans, these helped to settle the grounds and sweeten the brew. But the general method is to roast the green coffee beans in a pan over the fire, then grind them in a burr grinder (or use a mallet on a rock or anvil). Boil up a gallon of water, and add to it 1 1/2 to 2 cups of ground coffee mixed with eggshell, bring back to a boil for a minute or two, remove from the fire , set sit for a few minutes (no more than 3), then slowly add a cup of cold water to settle the grounds. Decant off the clear coffee. Other method is to put the grounds, without the egg shell, into a cotton or linen bag one big enough to allow lots of expansion of the grounds and free flow of water through them, then put that into the pot, bring back to boil, and so on. But, o, how Arbuckles has fallen...I found this on the Arbuckle Coffee Roasters site: ORGANIC COFFEE AVOCADO SHAKE This is a variation of a drink indigenous to Indonesia Ingredients 1/2 cup Organic Espresso or 1/2 cup Organic French Roast Sumatra coffee, Chilled 1/2 large Ripe Organic avocado 1/2 cup Organic Half & Half Cream 2 cups Organic Ice Cream (vary flavors to create new drinks) 2 teaspoons Organic Tahitian Vanilla Extract 2 tablespoons Organic Chocolate Syrup Garnish by floating 3 dark roasted Organic coffee beans on top Optional: add ½ teaspoon of Organic Ginger to add tartness Or add 1 teaspoon of Organic Sugar to sweeten Or substitute Organic Yogurt for ice cream (Plain or with fruits) Or if you don’t believe me Substitute ½ cup of Wild Organic Blueberries for the Organic Avacado Trust Me, you’ll love it! The Avocado adds tremendous body to the drink Preparation Brew coffee the day before & place in sealed container in refrigerator. Split avocado in halves. Spoon avocado flesh into a blender. Add remaining ingredients. Use purée speed until completely smooth, no more than 90 seconds. Serve in a chilled glass Organic? Tahitian Vanilla? Yogurt? Avocado in your coffee???? Ded Laast, SASS#29494
Hello the Campfire, Nothing like brewing up a pot of Arbuckles. Sure its a little on the pricey side but the flavor is great. I found out that you can buy an authentic coffee box, like was used on the trail drives North from Texas. Arbuckles sells them for 129.00 and you put it together or you can contact Old Tucson Studios They are a SASS corporate sponsor and they can do it also. Your campsite and your chuckwagon really looks great when you have the coffee box as part of your display. I use mine to store my dutch oven pots and other cooking equipment. I've seen one gent that uses the box as an icebox. He lined the inside with metal and he even put in a drain spout on the reverse side so you can't see it from the front when he is camping. Great idea Shooting and cooking you can't beat it
