A new member just posted a question on the Wire about why we have so many categories in SASS. Hope this doesn't turn into another firestorm. But just in case, I'm staying on this side of the street with my helmet nearby.

Being married, and therefore demonstrating a critical lack of judgment, I'm going to opine:

 

Too many categories. I shot a yearly where I placed 3rd out of 4 in Cowboy. If I had merely changed my classification to 49er - and done nothin' else - I would have placed 1st in a field of 4. That would have helped, as my wife placed 1st in her Cowgirl category - in a field of 2. That - was a long ride home.

 

Not good when your choice of categories is the most important action of your match.

 

I find myself ignoring the categories and going right to the over-alls.

and it dont much matter to me which category I write down, I am NOT gonna "win" it, or any other!

Every Big match- and most of the small ones - need Cannon Fodder like me to pay the bills for the other guys' awards!

Now, if they were to add a Cannon Fodder category, I MIGHT place in the middle of THAT one!

I was kinda hoping they would come up with a steampunk category now that I know what it is.. lol.. i have a very cool costumes picked out to make for it.. lol.

Bird Dog, I think you're onto something there. Let's do away with all style and age based categories and break it down by denominations.

 

Baptist

Methodist

Church of Christ

Catholic

Agnostic

Athiest

 

etc, etc.

 

Might have to be careful on how we do posse assignments though. We couldn't have theological discussions leading to gunplay!
