Remember the good old days when Sear, Wards, Aldens, etc. would send out their Christmas Wish books of toys. How we would dwell over them and mark pages, circle the toy or toys we yearned for. Many times we got them, but many times we didn't.

Question, was there a toy, or toys you wanted but never got?

My wish was for the Lionel Sante Fe streamline passenger set, and a Marx Zorro set. Believe me, I did everything from bending the pages over, circling them, and talking about them, but never got them. MT

Yep, I wanted a Santa Fe Super Chief myself cause back when I could watch the real thing.

I never did get the matched set much less a single of the Nichols made Stallion .45. It was the king of the capguns.

I don't know that it was a toy so much but thought I'd die if I didn't get a Savage OU 22/410. Well, I didn't die after all.

My Pops got me a train set for Christmas when I was a year old!!! I think he bought it for himself. My parents would add to it every year, I still have that Lionel train set. I always wanted an American Flyer to go along with it and have 2 trains but it never happened. The AF was more accurate but the quality of the Lionel couldn't be beat. I think I'm gonna set up that old train set this year. Ya'll got me in the mood now. Rye

I always wanted a Daisy "Red Rider" BB gun, we never could afford it when I was young. A couple of years ago, they had one ar a Friends of the NRA bamquet, figured I could afford one now. After the bidding was over, I found out I was wrong.

We set up a train set under the tree every year, and my wife sets up a village set with a train set also. This year she has the Mayberry town scene set up. We have a lot of kids that come and watch em every year. Last year we had as many as 20 kids come watch the action on one day. MT

Trains were only a passing fancy of mine, as were model cars, and other toys.

With me, from the time I was 8 or so, it was always a gun that I wanted. Dad had regaled us with stories of how he received his first .22 at the age of 6, and I could never understand why I didn't receive one for Christmas at or near that age.

Finally at the age of 13, my brother and I (he was 3 years younger) received matching Ithaca model 66 shotguns in .410. I still have it, and will pass it to one of my grandchildren when the appropriate time comes.

That was the only firearm I ever received as a gift until I was 44 or 45 years old, when a very good friend gave me a DS Arms SA-58 for no reason other than he had 3 and I had none.

Wasn't a toy... I wanted a pony, really bad, when I was about 4 or 5.

I promised my parents I would take care of it and feed it.

The fact that I lived on 85th Street in Brooklyn didn't matter.

Aw, I wanted a BB gun SO bad....but Mom was a "you'll put your eye out" type...

Instead, I got a lever action air rifle that shot cork balls at flying targets (a small hoop with two-piece cardboard taget inserts, "thrown" when you stepped on an air bulb). Clever, but like all "almost the same" gifts, not quite the same....

Lionel trains were my big one, too. When I got train stuff, it was always Marx :blink:

My parents gave my Marx set to a kid who didn't have much for Christmas the year I went into the Army. I'm still looking for a set like the one I had. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it was in really good condition so I could run it at Christmas. That and all the old Plasticville stuff I could find. (Some of it is back, but none of it is fifty cents anymore. )

40, I had the Plasticville stuff, too. I also had a metal whistling train station. At one point, my layout was on two 4x8's. Had the Marx SantaFe passenger set( an A-B engine combo, but of course I wanted the two A's that the lionel set had). Once I got a little older, I switched over to the HO scale road racing stuff, the trains got put away and the road set took over the two 4x8's.

I also had a steamer freight set that had a smoking engine( liquid smokestuff, over do it and you had smoke coming out the drivers, too), plus a switcher engine.............Buck

Thats easy... I always wanted what they got for my brothers, and I would end up getting it as soon as they got tired of it.. lol..

It was the train set for me when I was a kid. Asked my Mom for one she said no. So I thought I'd just ask Santa, still didn't get one. I was an unhappy kid when I got up Christmas morning and didn't find one under the tree.

Sm  kin' Sixes

Well, I got one thing I wanted and one thing I did'nt want, or at least thought I didn't want.

1st I wanted a Appy hoss, ya know, da one all black as night wif da white star wif black dots on da backside. Man, ifin'

I got da hoss, I'd leave home fer good and Dad wood'nt have to feed me anymore.

But got a brown/red wif spots all over'em.

2nd was a single shot 22 bolt action rifle. Dad said wif dat I cood help put meat on da fire, but he only gave me 1 box of 22 shells.

He said dat wood make me a better shot!!

Dood'nt know ifin' it worked out, but it made me tankful fer what I have today !!!!

the toys I wanted but never got....

long list there, but I had more than enough. I had some of the "latest greatest" toys of the time, but not everything I wanted, but the best toys I can remember were a stick, a rock, and a football. Spent many hours playing with those.

Now as an adult, there's lots of toys I've wanted and never got. Again, I have plenty, and if I really want something I can usually find a toy I don't use any more to sell to finance new toys.

Still, Santa has NEVER brought me a gun, I've hinted, I've wrote letters, I've sent emails, NOTHING. Just once I'd like to be surprised with a new gun under the tree. I'm not bitter....much.

I actually had rock em sock em robots! Kinda fun, but like most trendy toys, after a while they lose the appeal, not to mention break.

I've got one of those..At least I have a part of one!

I have the engine and the "power car" that goes behind it(the Lionel Santa Fe)..I've had that thing nearly my entire life..Some family friends had the whole set and us kids played with it (and abused it) till it was literally in pieces..I wound up with the engine and car that goes behind it (also one of the passenger cars, but it is beyond repair) it wouldn't run when I first got it, but my Dad was an electrician and was pretty handy with those old motors, he got it up and running again and that unit has some POWER! you had to have some cars hooked up to it or it would run so fast it would derail itself..I thought about selling it but when I took it to a model railroad dealer he turned his nose up at it and offered me a hundred bucks for it..Said the body was no good, he only wanted the innards..The body is banged up, but still looks pretty dang good for a fifty-plus year old toy!

I turned him down, figgered he was tryin' to rip me off..And besides, I've been wanting to someday do the Christmas tree thing with it, but I'm gonna need some Pullmans, track and a transformer.

It makes me sick when I think of what that set would be worth nowadays if it was in mint condition with the boxes it came in..

Kinda funny..Now I can drive down to Santa Fe in about 30-45 minutes..I wonder if that original Diesel is on display somewhere or did it get scrapped?

I hope it's still around, that was the coolest paint job ever to go on a Diesel!

I did get an early Christmas present this year..Something I've been wanting for many years..A 1963 Fender Stratocaster in Lake Placid blue..It was refinished in that color in 1968, and the pickups have been rewound, but I don't care, it's a beautiful "Player" axe..Bought it at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, and named her "Nashville Blue"!:blush:

Been puttin' in a lot of "fret time" on her, and so far nobody in the apt. building has been yellin' at me to turn that da*m thing down!

'Course I'm using my little Fender Champ amps..They sound good and ain't that loud!

I wanted a playhouse, the type one played inside of. Don't know why because I wasn't a little Dottie Domestic.

Instead I played with my brothers (didn't have sisters) and their toys, army soldiers and tanks, lincoln logs, slot cars, sling shots and Rock'em Sock'em Robots!

Yes, I had all of the girly toys such as Barbie dolls and Jane West and horse but boys' toys were more fun.

Posted

I wanted an aircraft carrier. it could catapult the WW2 corsair planes off the deck and send them flying for a short distance. A friend got one and let me play with it 1 ime. It was a blast. They no longer make it or I would buy it for my kid.

Always wanted a 1970 Dodge Daytona, blue with that big fin. It wouldn't fit under the tree and I got a BB gun instead.

Was your Mom and mine related??? Exactly the same scenario at my house except I didn't have the hoop inserts and air bulb, just the cork with a string on it. It didn't go too far. When I was old enuf to buy a Red Ryder I did. I think I was 40!!!
